QUESTION 1:

The school wants to know the student's weight after only 1 month of military
training to see the effectiveness of the training. And here is the weight given:

35   49 48 38 50 57 65 53 63 70 66
40 37 45 39 55 60 56 46 72 68 75

a)   Provide the complete source of information for your data (eg: a URL if the
data was taken from the internet, or a screenshot of the appropriate page(s) if
the data was taken from a printed source:
b)   Based on your selected data
i.   identify the number of classes and class width :
- Number of classes:
K≈1+3,3log(n)
≈1+3,3log(22)
≈5,4
As it is an approximation, we can choose any integer close to 5,4 i.e. 5 or 6
We choose 6

-Class Width =(Largest number-Smallest number)/K

=(75-35)/6= 7

ii.   develop an appropriate frequency table based on information

Class Frequency Mid.Point

35-45 5 40
45-55 5 50
55-65 6 60
65-75 5 70
75-85 1 80
iii.   construct a frequency polygon
Frequency  Polygon
7
6
5
4
3
2
1
0
40 50 60 70 80

iv.   develop a histogram

c)   Comments on the skewness of the distribution based on your graph in:

The positively skewness has a longer or wider tail on the right.

d)   Determine the cumulative frenquency and upper boundary for each class

Class Frequency Upper Cumulative

boundary frequency

35-45 5 45.5 5

45-55 5 55.5 10
55-65 6 65.5 16

65-75 5 75.5 21

75-85 1 85.5 22
e)   Construct a cumulative frenquency polygon with type”less than or equal to”

Upper Cumulative

Less than or 5

Less than or 10

35.5  45.5 55.5 65.5  75.5  85.5

f)   Based on your graph in estimate the first quartile and third quartile

First of all, you have to arrange this ascending order i.e from lowest to highest:

35-37-38-39-40-45-46-48-49-50-53-55-56-57-60-63-65-66-68-70-72-75

First quartile(Q1) = (N+1)*1/4=(22+1)*1/4=5,75-> i choose 6

So first quartile(Q1)= 45
Third quartile(Q3) = (N+1)*3/4=(22+1)*3/4=17,25-> i choose 17

So third quartile(Q3)= 65

Question 2:

The following data represents the age of Covid-19 patients who have been recorded as
fatalities by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on 6th May 2021.

62 79 62 63 73 79 31 44 78 57

92 79 79 74 62 71 51 57 76

a)   Calculate the following:

I.   Mean :
∑ % '()*+)'()⋯)*'
Mean: 𝑥̅ = &
= -+
=66,8

ii. Mode :𝑥.=79(since number 79 occurs four times(the highest frequency) ,the mode
79)
- -
iii. Median: 𝑥/ position=((n+1)=  ((19+1)=10.Thus the position of median is 10th

31,44,51,57,57,62,62,62,63,71,73,74,76,78,79,79,79,79,92

The median is 71

iv.variance and the standard deviation

44 -23 529

51 -16 256

Sum=1269 Sum =3876

𝑥̅ =1269/19=67 (23%̅ )( 56*'

&3-
= -6
=215

The Standard deviation of the sample,s= √215=14,67

b)   Obtain the Pearson coefficient of skewness and comment an the distribution:

5(%̅ 3%/) 5('*3*-)
PCS = ;
= -<,'*
=-0,82-> negative skewness

Question 3:

A recent survey asked a group of respondents whether they are right-handed or

lefthanded. The results were shown in the following table.

Gender Right - handed Left-handed

Male 43 9

Female 42 6

a)   Calculate the total number of respondents in the survey

Total number of respondents,N=43+42+9+6=100

b)   How many female respondents were involved in this survey?

Female respondents involved in the survey :42+6=48

c)   Find the following probabilities:

i.   the respondent answered right-handed, given that the respondent was a
female
<(
P=<()<5)+)'=0,42

ii.   the respondent was a male,given that the respondent answered left-handed
+
P=<()<5)+)'=0,09.
