4 INSPECTION SCHEME – RISERS (DIVER)

4.1 GENERAL
The risers to be inspected are as per Appendix 31-A

4.2 SCOPE – RISERS BELOW LAT

The risers below LAT will be inspected either by diver or using an eyeball ROV based on
a Diving/ROV Support Vessel equipped with a video camera. The inspection method will
depend on local site conditions and visibility in the water column. The primary method of
inspection carried out by TI in the Mahakam Delta is diver inspection however ROV
inspection may be used if necessary.
The riser above LAT to the first flange before the ESDV will be visually inspected by
vessel and Site Inspector

Routine Diver/ROV surveys are normally carried out at a General Visual Inspection
(GVI) level, from a support vessel. Close Visual Inspections (CVI) or Detailed Visual
Inspections (DVI) may follow as a result of the GVI, where specialised cleaning, NDE
techniques or remedial action is required. The aims of the survey are to detect any of the
following:

5 INSPECTION SCHEME – PIPELINE & RISERS (ROV)

5.1 GENERAL
All offshore trunk lines in the Peciko and Bekapai fields will normally be inspected 100 %
by Side Scan Sonar (SSS). Following this inspection pipeline crossings, 500m zones
and areas of interest would be further inspected by Diver or ROV. Short infield lines
would be inspected by ROV only, due to restriction in access for an acoustic survey.
NOTE: At time of writing shallow water inspection technology for the Tunu Field is being
investigated.

A listing of pipelines and proposed inspection method is detailed in appendix 3A.-2

5.2 SCOPE
A Pipeline Survey Vessel will be used for the external inspection of the pipelines.
Pipelines will be routinely inspected and monitored using direct and indirect techniques
to:
 Generate information on the current external condition
 Enable accurate assessment of the corrosivity and remaining life
 Ensure that the subsea facilities do not become defective or damaged (proactive).

Routine ROV surveys are normally carried out at a General Visual Inspection (GVI)
level, from a support vessel. Close Visual Inspections (CVI) or Detailed Visual
Inspections (DVI) may follow as a result of the GVI, where specialised cleaning, NDE
techniques or remedial action is required.

The aims of the ROV survey are to:

 Verify are assess anomalies, areas of concern or inspect specific locations such as
pipeline crossings.
 Quantify the extent of exposure, free spanning and debris.
 Define the trench profile
 Define & record on video the external condition of the pipeline, in particular the
coating condition, field joints and anodes
Ref no: DR-OPR-PR-007
SUBSEA RISER & PIPELINE Page: 10 of 13
VISUAL INSPECTION Date: 19/09/05
Rev 1/A

 Determine the level of Cathodic Protection along the length of the pipeline and
therefore assess the adequacy of the Cathodic Protection System.

5.3 PROCEDURE

ROV Visual Survey

Pipeline System will be visually inspected using 'work class' and 'eyeball' ROVs, which
will be equipped with:

 Video cameras. One forward-facing on pan-and-tilt for pilot/top of pipeline, and two
on pan-and-tilts on booms; one to port and one to starboard of pipeline for viewing
sides and below. 'Eyeball' ROVs will normally be equipped with a single camera.
 A pressure sensor for the depth of the vehicle plus an altimeter for the height of the
vehicle above seabed - giving bathymetry
 A transverse profiler or alternative swath profiler to obtain transverse profiles at
intervals not greater than 3m longitudinally
 CP measurement. Remote cell for general potential measurement and manipulator-
held probe for direct measurement

The position of the ROV shall be computed relative to the support vessel by the use of
an acoustic range / bearing system (SIMRAD HPR) to an accuracy of netter than +/- 3m.

Cathodic Protection Survey

 The Survey shall be carried out during the ROV survey

 The Cathodic Potential shall be measured using a closed cell referenced to a remote
cell to provide a continuous potential measurement.
 Direct (contact) potential requirements will be recorded to select locations (i.e. bare
steel, anodes etc) along the length of the pipeline.
 The condition of the anodes will be assessed and any substantial depletion noted
