Module 2.1

This document contains an activity identifying different teaching approaches based on sample statements. It also contains questions to test understanding of key concepts like the differences between approaches, methods, and techniques in teaching. While direct instruction is best for step-by-step procedures, allowing questions during demonstrations depends on the topic. Inquiry methods can be used for both natural and social sciences. There is no single best teaching method as factors like the teacher, students, and environment determine effectiveness.

1. It welcomes group work, team work partnerships and group discussions.

Answer: Collaborative Approach

2. Students construct knowledge by connecting them to their prior experiences.

Answer: Constructivist Approach

Answer: Teacher – Centered Approach

4. The teacher directly tells or shows or demonstrates what is to be taught.

Answer: Direct Teaching Approach

5. The teacher deposits knowledge into the “empty” minds of students.

Answer: Banking Approach
Just to tickle your thinking, answer the following:

1. Distinguish among approach, method and technique.

Answer:
Approach is the principles and belief you gained in your entire life, your own
philosophy that you are using when interacting with one another. Method is a long term
plan or will organized procedure that will ensure the best outcome. Technique is a
procedure that will make the task easier to be accomplished.

2. Why is direct instruction often used in lessons that are implemented through a step-by-
step procedure?
Answer:
In my opinion because a step by step procedure is already an finished task by
other and by doing it again you just need to instruct the procedure again to the next
learner and do the same thing and the same outcome.

3. While the demonstration is going on, is it advisable to allow questions or clarifications

from the observers?
Answer:
I guess it depends on the demonstration, for example a demonstration of
experimenting something that needs of no interruption, because it might cause some
harm, I believe that observers must save their question after the demonstration. But if
asking question can cause nothing in performing the demonstration I guess it is advisable
for the student inquiry for understanding better and clarifications.

4. Is the inquiry method only for the teaching of the natural sciences? Is it also appropriate
for the teaching of social sciences?
Answer:
Yes, because it is also a science and I believe that sciences comes from inquiries.
To understand better sciences in my opinion inquiry method is the best method for the
learning process.

5. Is there a best teaching method?

Answer:
Yes, but it depends on the factor of learning process. It depends to the teacher,
learner, environment and others. For me the best teaching method comes from the teacher
who will sacrifice her/his self-interest for its learner’s development. There is best
teaching method but there is no perfect teaching method, the best teaching method is
dynamic. It might best method now but it might not the best tomorrow. So as a future
educator I will just do my best that I have learn in order to have best learning outcome.
