ASSIGNMENT # 1
(CLO2, PLO2)

Due Date: 25-10-2021

Question No. 1:

A simple circular curve is to have a radius of 525 m. The tangents intersect at chainage 1050 m
and the angle of intersection is 130o. Solve and Calculate:

i. Deflection angle
ii. Tangent length
iii. Length of curve
iv. Chainage at beginning and end of the curve
v. Length of the long chord
vi. Degree of the curve

Question No. 2:

A compound curve is to be plotted having the following curve design data:

For short curve

Radius = R1 = 70 m

Deflection Angle = φ1 = Δ1 = 30º

For Long curve

Radius = R2 = 100 m

Deflection Angle = φ2 = Δ2 = 40º

• Chainage of Intersection Point (I) = 1250 m

• Peg Interval = 5 m
• Least count of Vernier (Theodolite) = 5”

Calculate all the data necessary for setting out the compound curve by deflection angle
method

Label a neat sketch of compound curve with calculated data
