Acer
The most common keys to enter Setup on Acer hardware are F2 and Delete.
On older computers, try F1 or the key combination CTRL+ALT+ESC.
If your computer features an ACER BIOS, you can restore the BIOS to bootable settings by
pressing and holding the F10 key. Once you hear two beeps, settings have been restored.
Asus
As with Acer, the most common key is F2.
Depending on your model, it might also be the Delete or Insert key, and less commonly F10.
DELL
On a newer Dell computer, try the F2 key while you see the Dell logo.
Alternatively, try F1, Delete, F12, or even F3.
Older models might use CTRL+ALT+ENTER or Delete or Fn+ESC or Fn+F1.
HP
Keys most commonly used on HP machines to enter setup include F10 and ESC.
On some HP computers F1, F2, F6, or F11 will open the gates to the BIOS.
On HP Tablet PCs F10 or F12 will get you into the Setup.
HP has compiled information on its BIOS here.
Lenovo
The F1 or F2 key should get you into the BIOS.
Older hardware might require the key combination CTRL+ALT+F3 or CTRL+ALT+INS or
Fn+F1.
If you have a ThinkPad, consult this Lenovo resource: how to access the BIOS on a ThinkPad.
Sony
On a Sony VAIO, F2 or F3 will get you into the Setup, but you can also try F1.
If your VAIO has an ASSIST key, try to press and hold it while you power on the laptop. This
also works if your Sony VAIO came with Windows 8.
Toshiba
Your best bet is the F2 key.
Other candidates include F1 and ESC.
On the Toshiba Equium F12 will enter the BIOS.

Method 2: Use Windows 10's Advanced Start Menu
Unfortunately, some computers go through POST so quickly that there's no time to hit a key.
Some desktops won't even recognize input from a USB keyboard until after POST is completed
(though they will see input from an old PS2-style keyboard). If you can't use a BIOS key and you
have Windows 10, you can use the "Advanced startup" feature to get there.
1. Navigate to Settings.
2. Click Update & Security.
3. Select Recovery in the left pane.
4. Click Restart now under the Advanced startup header.
Your computer will reboot.
5. Click Troubleshoot.
6. Click Advanced options.
7. Click UEFI Firmware Settings.
8. Click Restart to confirm.
Method 3: Use a Linux Command
If you're running a modern version of Linux such as Ubuntu, you may be able to get to the BIOS
by typing "sudo systemctl reboot --firmware" at the command prompt.
What if you can't boot your OS or hit a BIOS key?
If your computer can't load an operating system, because it doesn't detect a bootable drive, it will
usually pause, beep and give you the option to enter the BIOS, which it will often call "setup."
However, the biggest problems occur when the system POSTs too fast for you to hit a key and
then Windows or Linux tries to boot and fails. I've had this problem when I had a missing or
corrupted bootloader, I got the Windows splash screen and then a blue screen of death.
To force the BIOS to appear under these circumstances, you can try using an emergency boot
disk, provided that you can either select a boot device at startup or your computer has set an
external USB drive as a higher boot priority than its internal storage drive(s).
You can use a Windows 10 install disk as an emergency boot disk. Once the USB boots, you
need to click "Repair your computer" instead of install and then click Troubleshoot -> UEFI
Firmware Settings -> Restart.
Finally, if you can't boot off of an emergency disk, you can try to cause a system halting error
that would prevent your computer from attempting to boot off of its internal drives. Then, you'll
be given the option to enter the BIOS menu.
Many desktop computers will give an error message if there's no keyboard plugged in or if the
keyboard buffer is overloaded from holding down too many keys at start. Pulling out your
primary internal storage drive would also cause an error that would let you into the BIOS, but if
that drive has a non-booting OS on it, your problems might resume once you plug it back in.
Bottom Line
Whatever method you use to access your BIOS, be careful when making changes to your settings
there. You could end up disabling key components.

How to boot into USB from UEFI/BIOS?
To start with, prepare the USB bootable media. If you haven’t already, you should check out our
other articles. For Windows users, check out how to make a bootable USB media using Rufus or
creating bootable USB without any tool. If you happen to be using popular Linux distros like
Ubuntu know the easy ways to create bootable USB from ISO in Ubuntu.
• The first thing to do is to restart or shut down your PC.
• Insert the USB bootable media drive and switch on your computer.
• If the default setup in your BIOS or UEFI mode is configured accordingly or if you have manually
done the same, your will PC will automatically boot to the USB when connected. If not, continue
to the next step.
• Boot into the BIOS settings using the keys of your specific manufacturer that we showed
before.
• Look for Boot menu or something similar if that specific tab is not present.
• Finally, change the Boot Priority so that the Removable USB media is the prior one.
• Furthermore, you can directly boot into the USB media if there is such a function.
Also, do note that if you are looking to boot into an Ubuntu USB media ( or any Linux
distributions for that matter), disable fast boot option if available. Moreover, you need to turn on
the legacy boot mode for the same cause. For UEFI/EFI supported modern devices, this can be
done by disabling secure boot mode
Enter BIOS/UEFI settings
So that’s pretty much about it. Seems like the OEM’s keep bringing more and more series
lineups to the table. Therefore, the keys assigned for accessing UEFI or BIOS settings may
change for those devices. Still, we hope that this could help you at the time of need and feel free
to use the comment section below to widen the list. Also, point out the keys which didn’t help
you to enter BIOS utility as well. Cheers!
