Martizano Ronalyn B Math Lessonplan

The document outlines a lesson plan on using coordinates to locate points on a Cartesian plane. It discusses objectives of understanding factors of polynomials, rational expressions, linear equations, and linear functions. It provides examples of locating points in the four quadrants of the Cartesian plane and finding the coordinates of those points. Students will work in groups to practice plotting points and writing their coordinates. The lesson teaches real-world application of coordinates in daily life such as finding locations.

Preparatory Activities
Good Morning class Good Morning Ma’am

A. Reviewing the previous lesson or

presenting the new lesson

Last meeting what are the lesson we talk Last meeting we talks about the Cartesian
about class? coordinate plane.
Look at the board class, what can you see? It is a Cartesian plane ma’am.
Yes it is Cartesian plane. Who can recall Cartesian plane has y and x-axis they are
what Cartesian plane is? also called as coordinate axes.

Very good! The Cartesian plane are divided into four

Another hand please. quadrants.
Yes, who can put in the Cartesian plane the
four quadrants? Teacher I can. (The student will write the
answer).
Very good, it seems like you really
understand our lesson last meeting.

B. Establishing a purpose for the new

lesson.
Class who can recall what we see in the The four quadrants
Cartesian coordinate plane? x-axis
y-axis
positive integers
negative integers
Very good!
I have here a box.
Negative integers Four quadrants

Positive integers Y-axis X-axis

Coordinates/Ordered Pairs Points

This box has pieces of paper with sentences
inside then you will pick a piece one and
choose at the board a word that are define in
the sentences.
1. Whole numbers that are greater than 1. Whole numbers that are greater than
zero: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6… zero: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6…
2. Real numbers that are less than zero:
-1, -2, -3, -4, -5, -6… Positive integers
3. Most commonly used in mathematics
2. Real numbers that are less than zero:
to refer to the four quarters of the
-1, -2, -3, -4, -5, -6…
coordinate plane.
4. Distance or angles represented by Negative integers

6. It is also called as horizontal axis. Four quadrants
7. It is also called vertical axis.
4. Distance or angles represented by

points on surfaces on two

6. It is also called as horizontal axis.

Y-axis

7. It is also called vertical axis.

X-axis

C. Presenting examples/instances of a
new lesson
Now look at the board class, I will put
butterfly in the Cartesian plane.
(the student’s will look at the board)

In what quadrant do I put the butterfly? In quadrant II ma’am.

Very good.
The location where I put the butterfly is what
we called as points. Always remember that
in every points there is corresponds ordered
pairs. The ordered pairs also called as
coordinates.
Is it clear class? Yes ma’am.

D. Discussing new concepts and

practicing new skills #1

Now let us find the coordinates of the

butterfly.
First we will count the numbers in the x axis
up to the point where the butterfly located.
Let’s count. 1, 2, 3, 4
The ordered coordinates of x-axis is 4. Now
we will find the coordinates of y-axis. Let’s
count upward. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
The coordinates of the butterfly in quadrant II
is (4, 6).
Another I will put the flower in the quadrant
III, we will find the coordinates of the flower.
Let’s count! 1,2,3,4,5,6,7
Look at the Cartesian plane, is it positive
or negative? Negative
So, the x-axis where the flower located
is -7. Yes ma’am.
Now let’s find the y-axis. 1,2,3,4,5
The y-axis where the flower is located
is? -5
So the coordinates of a flower is (-7,-5)
Are we clear class? Yes ma’am.
Class did you bring your fan page card?
Now we will have an activity. You will write in
your fan page card the coordinates in each
shapes.
After that you will show me your fan page
card.
Are there any clarification? No ma’am.
Let’s start.
E. Discussing new concepts and
practicing new skills #2

Let’s have a game class.

Your seatmate will serve as your pair. This
game called as “Appear”. I will give you a
blank Cartesian plane per pair. Then I will
write at the board a 3 coordinates you will
plot its point in your blank Cartesian plane. If
you are done you will “Appear” with your
partner. The first pair who will finished will
have additional points.
1. (9,-4)
2. (-6, -7)
3. (8, 10)

F. Developing mastery (leads to

formative assessment)

I will group you in to 3 groups. This row will

be the group 1, this row will be the group 2
and this row will be the last group. Choose
your leader in a group. I will give you 5
minutes to answer and after that you are
going to present it in the class.

But before we start the activity, what are the

standards that we need to follow? Standard: s
1. Minimize noise
2. Follow the directions
3. Cooperate with the group
4. Finish your work on time
5. Clean your area after working
Very good!
The group 1 will look the fruits in the
Cartesian plane and write the coordinates in
the parenthesis.

1. (__,__)
2. (__,__)
3. (__,__)
4. (__,__)
5. (__,__)

The group 2 will plot the following

coordinates in the Cartesian plane.
1. (7, 8) 4. (-3,-5)
2. (4,-6) 5. (-7,-1)
3. (9,-2)
The group 3 will write the corresponding
letter for each coordinates.

G. Finding practical application of

concepts and skills in daily living
skills.

Class do you think how we can use our If we are finding house of our friends or
lesson in our daily living? classmates we can plot their house like what
we do in the Cartesian plane.

We can also use plotting of points to find and

describe the place of an object.
H. Making the generalization and
abstraction about the lesson.
We will have the “dear classmates and
friends”
What we do during the dear classmates and We answer the question by dedicating it to
friends? our classmates and friends.
Very good.
How do we find the coordinates in every Dear classmates and friends we find the
point? coordinates of every point by finding its
location on y and x-axis.
