WASHERS
1.0. Scope
This specification covers the dimensional and material requirements of galvanized ferrous
washers used with other hardware on Coop overhead electric distribution lines.
1.1. General
Washers furnished to SOCOTECO 2 specifications shall conform in all respects to the specific
dimensional and material requirements stated in this standard. The text, figures and references
to other standards supplement each other and shall be considered as parts of this standard.
1.2. Material
Washers shall be made from one of the following materials:
1.2.1. Hot or cold rolled steel produced in accordance with either ASTM A569-72 (R-1979),
[1], ASTM A570-79, [2], ASTM A575-81, [3], or ASTM A635-81, [4].
1.2.2. Malleable type washers shall be made from malleable iron specified in ASTM A197-79,
[5].
1.2.3. Ductile type washers shall be made from a grade specified in ASTM A536-80, [6].
1.3. Dimensions
Dimensions of washers specified by SOCOTECO 2 shall conform to NEMA Pub. No. PH10-1977,
[7]. Typical washers used by SOCOTECO 2 are shown in Figure 1 with dimensions before
galvanizing defined as follows:
1.3.1. Round ferrous washer:
A = Diameter of central hole
B = Outside diameter of washer
T = Thickness of washer
1.3.2. Flat square ferrous washer:
A = Diameter of central hole
B = Length of side
T = Thickness of washer
1.3.3. Curved square ferrous washer:
A = Diameter of central hole
B = Length of side
T = Thickness of washer
R = Radius of curvature
SOCOTECO 2 washers shall be defined by the above dimensions and the bolt size.
1.4. Finish
Washers shall be hot-dip galvanized after fabrication in accordance with ANSI/ASTM A153-82,
[8]. All surfaces and edges shall be smooth and free from blemishes and irregularities not
consistent with good commercial practice.
1.5. Inspection
The manufacturer shall determine if the washers comply with the material and dimensional
requirements of this standard. Non-conforming washers are unacceptable.
1.6. Packaging
SOCOTECO 2 ferrous washers shall be securely packaged for shipment. Each package shall be
clearly marked with the manufacturer's name and catalog number.
1.7. Other Standards
The dimensional and performance requirements of ferrous washers, based on other
internationally recognized standards are acceptable only if the requirements of such standards
are equivalent to or exceed the requirements quoted in this document.
1.8. Submittals
1.8.1. Submittals required with tender:
1.8.1.1. The vendor shall complete and submit a copy of compliance statement and
supporting evidences to this specification. Statements of “Comply” or “Not
Comply” must be supported by evidence in a Bidders Bid and cross-referenced to
that evidence. Evidence shall be in the form of manufacturer’s un-amended sales
literature, unconditional statements of specification and compliance issued by
the manufacturer, samples, independent test data etc., as appropriate. A
statement that is not supported by evidence or is subsequently found to be
contradicted by the evidence presented will render the Bid under evaluation
liable for rejection. A statement either in the Bidders statement of compliance or
the supporting evidence that is found to be false either during Bid evaluation,
post-qualification or the execution of the Contract may be regarded as fraudulent
and render the Bidder or supplier liable for prosecution subject to the provisions
of Instructions to Bidders (ITB) Clause and/or General Provisions of the
Agreement Clause.
1.8.1.2. Detailed dimensional drawings.
1.8.1.3. Test certificates.
