I. IDENTIFICATION: Identify what is being described or referred to by the following


statements. Write your answer on your test paper.
1. It refers to the scientific study of language.
2. It is the method of human communication used by an individual or
community, spoken or written — verbal or non-verbal consisting of sounds, words, and
grammar.
3. In linguistics, it refers to the mental system involved in word formation
or to the branch of linguistics that deals with words, their internal structure and how they
are formed.
4. These words denote concepts and sometimes called open class words
because we can and regularly do add new words to these classes.
5. These kinds of words do not have clear lexical meanings and
sometimes called closed class words.
6. It refers to the minimal units of words that have a meaning and cannot
be subdivided further.
