1.0 COURSE PURP0SE:


The purpose of this course is to provide learners with basic mathematical tools and abilities of
algebra, trigonometry, probability and statistics which will provide support for further study in
mathematics and computer science.
2.0 LEARNING OUTCOMES:
By the end of this course, the learner should be able to:
 Solve problems involving quadratic functions and equations.
 Solve problems involving surds, indices and logarithms.
 Evaluate problems involving factorial notation and apply permutations and combinations to
various problems.
 Distinguish different types of series and solve problems involving applications of the
progressions.
 State and apply the remainder theorem.
 Solve problems involving the trigonometric ratios and their identities.
 Understand the statistics process and calculate measures of central tendency and variability.
 Understand the approaches to probability solve problems involving probability and apply
binomial distributions to probability problems.
