1.Batangas Province Science High School

The Batangas Province Science High School (Mataas na Paaralang Pang-
Agham ng Lalawigan ng Batangas) is a public residential science high school system in
Dacanlao, Calaca, Batangas, Philippines that focuses on the intensive study of science,
mathematics and technology. It is a DepEd-recognized science high school that was
founded by Batangas Provincial Governor Hon. Hermilando I. Mandanas. It opened its
doors to aspiring students on June 1998; in that same year, the school's
first English student publication, The Quillmaker, was published.
The BPSHS System offers scholarships to Batangueño students who are gifted
in the sciences and mathematics. Though BPSHS is a public school, enrollment is
limited, and applicants undergo a highly competitive review process before admission.
Admission to the BPSHS is by competitive examination only, and only Filipino citizens
who live in Batangas Province (excluding the cities of Lipa, Tanauan and Batangas) are
eligible to take the entrance exams and be admitted if their scores are above the cut-off.
The performance of the school shows that from SY 1998-2018, it was always the
top school in the division level contests/competitions, belonged to the top five schools in
the regional level contests/competitions, and was one of the top schools in the national
level.
From SY 2007-2010, the school was always the top school in the Division and
Regional Achievement Test results and belongs to the top 20 schools in the national
level. Furthermore, in SY 2010-2011, BPSHS ranked 1st in the National Achievement
Test - Mathematics Competencies. BPSHS was commended last 2010 as one of the
top performing schools in the Philippines. Mr. Michael Ularte, former school head,
received the award in Bohol.
BPSHS is noted for its prominence when it comes to science quiz
bees, Metrobank - MTAP DepEd Challenge, Press Conferences and the like. Last SY
2010-2011, the seniors of BPSHS grabbed the second place in the Regional Level for
the Metrobank - MTAP DepEd Challenge. In relation with this, a junior represented
the Division of Batangas in the same competition. The school had four Division
Champions (thus making them regional qualifiers) and another 1 Regional Qualifier for
the same school year's inter-school press conference. There were two division
champions for the Science Quiz Bee in SY 2009-2010. The aforementioned Division
Science Quiz Bee champions copped the 3rd and 4th place in the Regional Level, as
well.
In SY 2014-2015, the school sent participants to the Regional Schools Press
Conference and won 3rd place in Collaborative Publishing English.
Since 1998, approximately 40% of the graduates are admitted at University of the
Philippines, and the remaining are enrolled to other top universities like University of
Santo Tomas, Batangas State University, Polytechnic University of the
Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University, Far Eastern University, and De La Salle
University. A number of the students, who choose to pursue pure and applied sciences
degrees, successfully applies for college scholarships from the Department of Science
and Technology.

School
The CLSU Science High School, known as the "University Science High School"
(USHS), established by virtue of the CLSU Board of Regents under the Board
Resolution No. 1622 dated June 14, 1976 as a prime school for students who are
inclined to pursue science and technology courses which the country needs for its
massive and sustaining development programs. In 1978, Board Resolution No. 1780
was passed revising the curriculum and changing the name to Agricultural Science High
School as an answer to the clamor for change of the traditional curricular offerings.

Further revision/enrichment of the curriculum was made in 1979 to strengthen the
agricultural components and meet the needs of the students who seek admission to
Agricultural Institutions of higher learning without prejudice to the original goal of
preparing the youth for intensive training in science and technology. The school has
opened its doors to interested applicants who qualify through screening by an entrance
examination to fill up the limited slot of 80 in the first year level since 1978.

In 1983, the school was back to its original name, the Science High School, to
respond to the schools' intensive emphasis in science and technology.

Now in its more than four decades of existence, though a small unit in the University
under the College of Education, the USHS has been an asset and will always be an
asset continuously giving its share in making CLSU a bold name in the academic world
where science and technology front the line in its educational thrusts by producing
quality graduates. https://ushs.clsu.edu.ph/about.php

10. Mandaue City Science High School

Mandaue City Science High School (MCSHS) is a secondary school founded
in 1996 in Opao, Mandaue City, Philippines. It transferred to Ibabao-Estancia, Mandaue
City in 2008.
Mandaue City Science High School, originally named Mandaue City National
Science and Technology High School, started its operation during S.Y. 1996 - 1997 in
response to the directive of the DECS Secretary Ricardo T. Gloria [1] It was created to
give Mandauehanons access to the best education that caters the need of students who
excel in Science and Mathematics.
It is a secondary school which has a special curriculum that provides a more
intensive and advanced program, especially in Science and Mathematics. It is a school
for more promising students with the objective of fostering the problem-solving
approach of critical thinking.
The first intake of MCSHS was composed of 25 students who had superior
abilities in science and mathematics. They graduated from different public elementary
schools in the city and were rigidly screened and interviewed by the DECS, Mandaue
City ESI in Science, Mr. Rigel Devena, who himself campaigned and disseminated the
information on the opening of a science high school in the division.
The first batch of students was mostly honor pupils from their respective schools.
In fact there were several valedictorians and salutatorians in the group while the rest
were honorable mentions.
A full force of Comprehensive teachers took good care of the Science High
Students and painstakingly taught them even if it meant an overload since there were
no teachers available, then. The advisers of Science High Students were Mrs. Editha
Cinco, Mrs. Dalisay Lumapas, Mrs. Beatriz Vicente, and Mrs. Teresita Garbo. These
teachers motivate the future scientists to engage in activities and contests which were
either academic, sports-related, or cultural in nature. They excelled in these
undertakings and started making a name for the school.
Mrs. Lucilin Suan, former principal of MCCNHS, succeeded Mr. Rigel Devena in
the division and in the case of the Science High School. She did the selection and
interview of the second batch composed of 20 students and the third batch composed of
20 students.
In 1998, former Mandaue City Schools Supt. Dr. Gloria Pinili pointed out the
need to make MCSHS independent and gain recognition from the Bureau of Secondary
Education. At the beginning of this plan to separate MCSHS, Dr. Pinili chose a very
dynamic administrator whom she saw would ably hold the reins of the division's show-
windows on quality education. Mr. Marcelo Inot was picked from the many
administrators on the bases of his educational and intellectual qualifications, and his
leadership potential.
By S.Y. 1999–2000, Mandaue City Science High School weaned itself from its
first foster school and started operating independently. Occupying one of the buildings
of DGLLOMNHS, it is now composed of 5 classes with 70 students in the first year, 24
in the second year, 20 in the third year, and 22 in the graduating class, a total of 136
students. They are mentored by 10 young and strong teachers picked equally from
strong high schools in Mandaue City.
Since then, the school has carved a name for itself as it gained honor and
recognition through the students' very good performance in contests and other activities.
With the support of the division staff, especially Mrs. Lucilin Suan and Mrs. Milagros
Ouano as well as the officials of the barangay headed by Barangay Chairman, Joy
Mangubat and the government of Mandaue City headed by Mayor Thadeo Ouano,
MCSHS is bound to reap more.
