Hi everyone!

// My name is Juan Camilo Restrepo, and I am going to talk about one of the best

decisions of my life. // This story begins in 2016 when I was 16 years old, I found myself in
college// in tenth grade, when all the pressure from my family to choose my major began. // At
that moment I realized that I did not know what I was going to do with my life, and I started
searching, time passed, and I saw thousands of options, // but it was not until 2017 that I finally
chose my major, Industrial Engineering. // With that decision made, I leaned towards a university
in Manizales, La Universidad Nacional. // I did the whole process to apply, I passed, but I realized
that I was not ready to leave yet. // I looked at many options, and one of those was Universidad
de Ibagué, in the city where I live, which I did not know but it had a program in agreement //
with Universidad de los Andes, I was very surprised by this, and made the decision
to enrol without consulting my parents.

In 2018 I started studying at the Universidad de Ibagué // and because I was in a transfer program,
I saw classes with advanced semester students, it was a bit odd, and I felt alone, because my
friends watched some classes together // and I could not be with them by the requirement of my
program. // For 2 years I was at Universidad de Ibague preparing and complying with the
requirements to be able to study at Universidad de los Andes. // After passing the subjects
at Universidad de Ibagué and an admission exam, I managed to fulfil my dream of studying
at Universidad de los Andes in 2020. // So, I arrived at the capital with fear, but with a lot of desire
to study, I knew the great challenge that I was going to face.

I came to an unknown city, // and I knew that the change was going to hit me very hard, I was
leaving my family and friends behind. // Already living in Bogotá and starting the semester, the
change of university was a bit hard, // since the academic demand was much greater than what it
was before, step by step I got used to the academic life of Universidad de los Andes. // Finally,
after studying for 2 months, the Covid-19 pandemic began, forcing me to return to my city to
confine myself on a mandatory basis.

Here I ask you, // how you would have felt if after so much effort to achieve something, everything
collapsed suddenly, and yes, // this is how I felt and how I have been feeling since that day. // I
have been in Ibague for more than a year studying remotely // without being able to attend the
university for which I fought so hard, feeling frustrated and bored.

But, when you know what you want, and you want it badly enough, // you will always find a way
to get it. // And that there is no elevator to success, to get there you must climb the stairs.
