The Corona Virus has affected all of us. As we stayed in
our homes, we were given more time to reflect and be
reconnected with God. We find comfort in God and in all the
worship and inspirational songs we hear around us.

Directions: Read or listen to the worship song, “God Can Do Anything “by The
Collingsworth Family.
GOD CAN DO ANYTHING

God can do anything with anything

He can heal any hurt, any suffering
Every cross, every care, every burden He
bare
For anyone, anywhere
God can do anything

He turns nothing into something

He’s the giver if life
He’s hope to the hopeless
And a sight to the blind
And He makes the blackest sin, white as
snow
That’s why we can say

God can do anything with anything

He can heal any hurt, any suffering
Every cross, every care, every burden he
bare
For anyone, anywhere
God can do anything

The fairest of ten thousand

My soon coming King
Jehovah, Messiah, the reason why I sing
He’s Alpha and Omega
The Beginning and the End
My Savior and Redeemer
He’s my closest friend

God can do anything

with anything

In the discussion, you have learned about modals and their

functions.
At this point, you shall be reading passages or texts and
analyze how modals are used.

Reading Text 1
Therefore keep watch , because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.
But understand this: if the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief
was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. So you must be ready,
because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
-Matthew 24: 42-44, New International Version

MULL OVER
The reading passage is taken from Matthew 24:42-44, from the New International
Version Bible. It tells us that we should always be ready for the coming of the Lord.
Now, let us observe how the Bible verses or passage used modals. The passage
contains the modals, “would not”in the statement “he would not have let his house be
broken”. The usage of the modal “would not”in the statement tells us that we do not
allow things to happen, like we do not want a thief to enter our house so we have to stay
guarded.
Moreover, the passage also used the modal, “must”in the statement , “So you must
be ready”, this is satisfying an obligation. It is our obligation to be always prepared for the
coming of Lord . As the verses tell us that the coming of the Lord is like a barging of a
“thief in the night”, this also tells us to keep ourselves ready all the time for we never
know the exact day that He will come for us.

7
The reading text shows our obligation as Christians. In this reading text, find out what
you have and what you don’t have to do to have a healthy body.

Reading Text 2
Being slim is not healthy. It is not the figure that will determine if you are healthy or not but
it is your diet. I have here some tips on how to become healthy.
 You must remember to eat 4-5 meals daily but most important is breakfast.
 You should eat light and nutritious foods.
 You should eat every day at the right time and eat different healthy foods.
 You don’t have to eat fruits and vegetables only, you also have to have a balanced
diet by eating the right foods.
 You must not skip meals.
 You should drink 8-10 glasses of water a day.
 Aside from foods, remember to have a daily exercise and healthy environment.

MULL OVER

The reading text above tells you about the tips on how to become healthy. If you
are going to observe the list of tips, the sentences the modals like should, don’t have to
and must are used.
What are the things that you should or your obligations based on the text? These
are remembering to eat 4-5 meals daily, eating light and nutritious foods, eating every
day at the right time and eat different healthy foods, drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day
and having daily exercise. The prohibited act that you should not do is skipping meals.

Directions: Read the poem “The Seven Ages of Man “ (from As You Like It) by William
Shakespeare and answer the questions that follow:

The Seven Ages of Man

All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts
5 His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms;
And then the whining school boy, with his satchel
And shining morning face , creeping like a snail
Unwilling to school. And then the lover,
8 Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad
Made to his mistress’ eyebrow. Then a soldier
Full of strange oaths, and bearded like the pard,
Jealous in honor, sudden and quick in quarrel,
Seeking the bubble reputation
15 Even in the cannon’s mouth. And then the justice,
In fair round belly with good capon lined,
With eyes severe and beard of formal cut,
Full of wise saws and modern instances;
And so he plays his part. The sixth age shifts
20Into the lean and slipper’ d pantaloons,
With spectacles on nose and pouch on side:
His youthful hose well saved, a world too wide

14
For his shrunk shank; and his big manly voice,
Turning again toward childish treble, pipes
25 And whistles in his sound. Last scene of all,
That ends this strange eventful history,
Is second childishness and mere oblivion,
Sans teeth, sans eyes, sans taste, sans everything.
