ENG2601 Examination Guidelines Oct/Nov 2021

Dear Student
Please pay attention to the following guidelines for your upcoming examination.

Examination type and paper structure


 Your examination is a take-home assessment, which will begin on 9
November 2021, at 10H15 to 12 November 2021, at 10H15.
 It is your responsibility to submit your work before or on the due date
 The submission portal will close at 11H15 – an hour after the examination
duration expires.
 Should you experience any problems during the examination contact Mr
Mokoena on [email protected] or 012 4296379. Alternatively, contact
Mrs Phakathi on [email protected] or 012 4296354.
 You must use your myLife e-mail account for all correspondence.

This examination consists of Two Questions which require essay responses. The
two essays count for 100 marks.
These are not researched essays, therefore do not research the given topic.
Focus only on the given text in your response and follow the given instructions.

Examination Scope
Revise all the units in Tutorial letter 501 and complete the activities therein.

Examination Integrity
UNISA takes a firm stand against plagiarism. This includes but is not limited to the
following:

 sharing answers on social media platforms.


 Sourcing someone to write the examination on your behalf.

The ENG2601 team will not tolerate any dishonest practices. We have already
displayed this in the marking of assignments and will not hesitate to do so in the
marking of this examination.

Assessment Criteria:
We will be looking for the following when we mark your responses:

 Clear expression in English,


 The ability to write grammatically correct sentences and paragraphs in an
appropriate register,
 The ability to follow instructions,
 Evidence that you have worked through the study material related to each
assessment,
 Original work,
 Careful substantiation of points and consistent referencing of sources used.
 Content: focused on assigned topic and thoroughly developed.
 Argument: generating an essay with ideas clearly and succinctly stated, well-
organised, logically sequenced, cohesive, and well-supported.

Presentation:
a. Cover page with name, student number and module code.
b. All subsequent pages must have your name and student number.
c. If you are submitting a typed response –
 Use the Arial font
 Use size 14 for headings and size 12 for the body of your answer
 Use double-spacing for your paragraphs
 Justify your paragraphs for alignment.
d. If you are submitting a handwritten response –
 Try to ensure that your handwriting is neat and legible.
 Your answers must be written in black pen and not pencil as this affects
the quality of the scanned paper.
e. Please do not write in the margin/s.

NB: Proof-read your work before submission to minimise errors that may
affect meaning and lower your mark.

Your responsibility before the examination date


Check and update your contact details (phone number) on myUnisa in your
Personal Details. This will enable us to contact you during the examination, should
the need arise. Most numbers on the system are no longer in service.
