Automatic Data Capture

This document discusses automatic data capture topics, including: (1) The types of data stored on barcodes versus magnetic stripes on credit cards, and validation checks for each. (2) The benefits of automatic information kiosks at railway stations for passengers and station management. Kiosks could use touchscreens, mice, or light pens for input. They provide information more conveniently than human operators while also allowing management to advertise and provide live updates at lower cost than staffing information desks. A sample home page for the kiosks includes menus and links to train times, cancellations, general information and other railway services.
