In today’s session, I have learned and discovered a lot of various information regarding the life of our
hero Dr. Jose Rizal in abroad specifically in Europe, where he enrolled and studied Medicine and got
his degree of Licentiate and became knowledgeable enough to cure his mother’s eyesight. Through
the used of this information, I became aware about the hardships and sacrifices that Dr. Jose Rizal
faced during his stay in Europe. Though, he is intelligent enough, his life in Europe has been not well,
unlike when he was still in the Philippines. However, having these challenges doesn’t stop Dr. Jose
Rizal in pursuing his goals and dream and continue his studies abroad. These have become his
motivation to survive in his life and learn through his experiences. In this topic, I have learned that
living a life away to your own home country is truly a very difficult decision and sacrificed, in which
you will be able to feel the loneliness in your heart and this time you will eventually realized the
relevance and essence of family. Moreover, I have also realized that even though you are gifted with
so much intelligence, this will not become an exception for you to face some various problems.
However, these problems will also help you gain a lot of realizations and impact to your life and uplift
your sense of dedication. In addition, I have also realized that being friendly to others and being wise,
will also become one of the key-points for you to survive particularly in other countries.
On the other hand, in regards to the video that we watched, which is all about the celebration of the
500 years of Christianity in the Philippines. I have realized how Christianity molds and changes each
and every Filipinos lives and so as their faith. The arrival of Christianity to the Philippines also brought
changes to the culture and traditions of the Filipinos, which became our bridge to uplift and
strengthen our unity. Without the arrival of Christianity, our lives will be so much indifferent, our
aspect in life will not be as clear as how Christianity led us to become our new self and teaches us
about morality and rights. Moreover, without Christianity we will not be able to know Dr. Jose Rizal as
well, because as we all know all of his written works were specifically about criticisms and attacks to
the Spaniards and Friars unfair and unjust rules and management in government and in religion, by
which it became an eye-opener to all the Filipinos before. Lastly, I have also realized that having
Christianity in our lives helps to build up the foundation of spirituality or essence in every Filipinos and
uplift our strong nationality to our country.

In today’s session, our professor discussed about the Grand tour of Jose Rizal in Europe. From this
lesson, I have learned about the different places and countries that significantly made a mark to
Jose Rizal’s travel and also those people whom he met during his travel in Europe.
Moreover, based from Jose Rizal’s travel tour, I have also found out about the mistreatment of
Filipinos before in other countries specifically in Madrid. In which according to Jose Rizal, he saw
some Igorots working and being used off as an object in the exhibit to entertain people . This
mistreatment are basically against our rights as humans and it is described as immoral.
On the other hand, I have also realized that travelling around different country before was so
difficult and it takes a lot of time, money, patience and effort just for a person to be able to reach
his destination. Since, the transportation and technology before was not yet upgraded.
Basically, through the help of Jose Rizal’s travel tour, I have also realized that as a person we
should do things that we know will make us happy and will help us improve ourselves and achieve
our goals. Though, the journey of doing those things will be tough and challenging, as long as we
are dedicated and confident those challenges will never be a barrier for us to continue our journey.
Always remember that nothing is impossible if you are confident enough with yourself, your
talents, decision and goals in life and possessing a strong and positive outlook in mind, and of
course trusting yourself and having faith in God. Just like our hero Jose Rizal, his diligence or
hard-work led him to know the reality and the heartbreaking situation of the Philippines and the
Filipinos before at the hands of the Spaniards during their conquest. His confidence and intelligent
also led him to create his novels that caused Filipinos to be enlightened about their situation and
push them to unite and fight for their freedom.

In today’s session, our professor discussed about one of the great literary work
produced by our hero Dr. Jose Rizal which is entitled Noli Me Tangere. From this
lesson, I have realized about how the novel Noli Me Tangere contributed in shaping
Filipinos consciousness to the struggles that they are receiving from the Spaniards.
The novel really help and change a lot of Filipinos by revealing the hideous works
and actions that the Spaniards are executing. Mostly, the content of the Noli Me
Tangere are based from reality, observations and experienced of the author Dr. Jose
Rizal during his childhood and college years. Publishing this novel made a great role
to the society as this became the Filipinos source of strength and hope for them to
achieve the freedom that they are longing for a long time. During this time, a lot of
Filipinos became aware and took off their blind folds and unzip their mouth, and a lot
of revolutions from different places or parts of the country were created. Their
eagerness to achieve freedom and stop the oppression that they are receiving became
stronger as they were guided and inspired by how Dr. Jose Rizal took the initiative
and risk his own life to write a novel against the Spanish government and Friars as he
aimed to open-up the minds and eyes of Filipinos regarding their real conditions
under the Spanish regime.
On the other hand, by having this lesson, students and youth are re-enlightened and
reminded of the events that took place in the past at the hands of Spanish colonization
and other foreign countries. Moreover, I have also learned that love for the country
cannot be measured by the physical aspect or by how a person provide a good actions
for his own country. Instead, it is by heart and by how sincere a person is with regards
to protecting and caring for his country and his fellow citizens. Honestly, it is really
easy to say that you love your country, but it is hard to embodied it especially when
those words are just for the sake of popularity or to make you a good person and
became a patriot and nationalist. Always remember that selfishness will never lead
you to a great success, and flowery words will never give you a good followers.

Which of the articles of Dr. Rizal that were presented today by the different groups gave you valuable
lesson which made an impact to you as a Filipino, and why?
Our hero Dr. Jose Rizal wrote a lot of different articles to show and express his strong disagreement
against how Spaniards manage and colonized our country. Most of all, the root caused why he wrote
those articles was actually because of the way how Spaniards treat our fellow Filipinos as an ignorant
useless kind of people which is for him it is a huge insult to our own land. As the Spaniards continue to
disrespect our country and all the Filipinos before, Dr. Jose Rizal’s eagerness to fight against them
continue to rise-up and from that point on the engine of his mind begin to start and break all the laws
that the Spaniards have created, as he aims to create changes and freedom for all Filipinos.
Anyhow, from all the different articles that Dr. Jose Rizal had created and presented by different
group from our class. The article that really brought an impact to me was the “Los Agricultores
Filipinos” which is all about the hindrances why there were no improvements from Filipino Farmers.
As we all know Philippines was one of the great exporter of high quality rice before. Moreover, our
country is an archipelago that means we are rich in lands, therefore we are also rich from agricultural
products and known for our primary livelihood which is farming. However, as time pass by, in
accordance to what Filipino farmers had experienced before in the leadership of Spaniards. Up until
this present, farming was still being neglected despite how Dr. Jose Rizal fought against the rights of
Filipino farmers to Spaniards. Our government law still lack in supporting our farmers and their
livelihood. The rights of farmers were somehow deprive as they still tied-up by those powerful
people. Their weakness and lack of education were being used to gain other people the opportunity
to handle and use them, which is why the production of rice in our country deteriorate or decreased
and we are now starting to import rice from other country, since the farmers were being manipulated
and incorporated by our political system. As a result, we now loss our title as one of the best exporter
of rice because of those selfish, powerful and ungrateful people that we have in our country. As if, we
are being brought back to the past were Spaniards ruled our livelihood. On the other hand, the idea
of this article gave me a huge valuable lesson and that is, as a Filipino we should know how to cherish
and be grateful from those people who really do their own best just to provide us with our needs. We
should not let our farmers loss their passion and start to rebelled against us. Instead, we should give
our full support to our local products as they were made by our hardworking farmers. Most of all, we
should learn how to stand and protect our farmers from those people who have bad intentions. Let
ourselves be a hero from them, as to what Dr. Jose Rizal do to protect our Filipino farmers before.
From this point on, I have also realized that farmers were like precious diamond as a matter of fact
they are even more of that, because of their great dedication and bringing pride by means of our own
local products. Half of the economy’s budget were actually came from them, but still their needs
were being hold-up and they still stay at the bottom of our country’s priority. We should always
remember that we live a good life because of them, so we should somehow let them have their own
good life too.
