2 - TEST EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

- Time meter
- Digital multimeter
- Phase angle meter
- Secondary injection capable for simulation fault (ex, OMICRON CMC 256/356)

3 - PRELIMINARY CHECKS

3.1 Visual Check

- Carefully examine the relay to see that no physical damage has occurred since installation.
Ensure that earthing connection at the rear of relay case, are used to

3.2 Wiring
- Check if the external wiring corresponds to the apporiate relay diagram or assembly diagram
- When the relay is withdraw from its case, use continiuty tester to check if
the current short circuit (phase and earth CT's) between the terminal indicated on
the wiring diagram are closed.

3.3 Binary Input

- This test checks that all the opto-isolated inputs on the relay are functioning correctly.
NARI PCS-931_X have up to 36 binary inputs
- Ensure that the relay is still in test mode by viewing cell (COMMISSION TESTS, Test
Mode) to ensure that it is set to ‘Blocked’.

3.4 Binary Output

- This test checks that all the output relays are functioning correctly.
NARI PCS-931_X have up to 55 binary inputs
- Ensure that the relay is still in test mode by viewing cell (COMMISSION TESTS, Test
Mode) to ensure that it is set to ‘Blocked’.

3.5 Rear communications port

- This test should only be perform where the relay is to be accessed from a remote location and
will vary depending on the communication standard being adopted. It is not the intention of the test
to verify the operation of complete system from the relay to the remote location, just the relay's
rear communications port and any protocol converter nessesary.

Courier Communications Port

If a K-Bus to EIA(RS)232 KITZ protocol converter is installed, connect a portable PC running

the appropriate software to the incoming (remote from relay) side of the protocol converter.
The terminal numbers for the relay’s K-Bus port are given in the table below.

Ensure that the communications baud rate and parity settings in the application software are
set the same as those on the protocol converter (usually a KITZ but could be a SCADA
RTU). The relays courier address in cell [0E02: COMMUNICATIONS, Remote Access] must
be set to a value between 1 and 254.
Check that communications can be established with this relay using the portable PC.

4. SETTING CHECKS

The setting checks ensure that all of the application-specific relay settings (i.e. both the
relay’s function and programmable scheme logic settings), for the particular installation, have
been correctly applied to the relay.
Note: The trip circuit should remain isolated during these checks to prevent
accidental operation of the associated circuit breaker.
Apply the protection setting based on Approved Calculation Note and the PSL logic scheme
applied based on Approved Schematic Diagram.
Before begin testing make sure that the relay is in the "INTERNAL LOOPBACK" condition.

5. TESTING PROCEDURE
5.1. Current Measurement Check

- Setting PSL (Programmable Scheme Logic) based on approved schematic drawing
- Inject secondary current per phase to secondary current terminal at protection panel (Please see
Schematic drawing to locate the current terminal position)
- Adjust the injected current so the measurement display meets the expected value; Record Data
- Calculate the percent error; Record Data

(Iinject x Iprimer) - Iexpected value

%Error = X100%
Iexpected value

5.2. Line Differential Element Check

- Start by injecting current ±50% of the Idiff setting.
- Raise the current slowly until the relay tripped. Record data
- Keep injecting and slowly lower the current until the trip clear. Record Data

6. FINAL CHECKS
The tests are now complete.
Remove all test or temporary shorting leads, etc. If it has been necessary to
disconnect any of the external wiring from the relay in order to perform the wiring
verification tests, it should be ensured that all connections (wiring, fuses and links)
are replaced in accordance with the relevant external connection or scheme diagram.
Ensure that the relay has been restored to service by checking that cell
[0F0D: COMMISSION TESTS, Test Mode] is set to ‘Disabled’.
If the relay is in a new installation or the circuit breaker has just been maintained, the circuit
breaker maintenance and current counters should be zero. These counters can be reset
using cell [0609: CB CONDITION, Reset All Values]. If the required access level is not
active, the relay will prompt for a password to be entered so that the setting change can be
made.
If the menu language has been changed to allow accurate testing it should be restored to the
customer’s preferred language.
If a P991/MMLG test block is installed, remove the P992/MMLB test plug and replace the
cover so that the protection is put into service.
Ensure that all event records, fault records, disturbance records, alarms and LEDs have
been reset before leaving the relay.
If applicable, replace the secondary front cover on the relay.

7. RECORDING OF INSPECTION AND TEST DATA

The result of check and measurements made during the field test shell be recorded on test report form
