1-What are the essential differences between defining requirements
for operational systems and for data warehouses?
Ans-Operational Systems
Operational systems maintain records of daily business transactions.
In other words operational systems are where the data is put in
In providing information about the requirements for an operational
system, the usersare able to give you precise details of the required
functions, information content, andusage patterns.
Data Warehouses
Data Warehouse is a special database that serves as the integrated
repository of company data, for reporting and decision support
purpose. In other words the data warehouse is where we get the
data out.
In striking contrast, for a data warehousing system, the users are
generally unable todefine their requirements clearly. They cannot
define precisely what information theyreally want from the data
warehouse, nor can they express how they would like to usethe
information or process it

2- What data does an information package contain?


Ans-It consists of the Content Data Object (Physical Object or Digital
Object, i.e., bits) and its associated Representation Information
needed to make the Content Data Object understandable to the
Designated Community.

3-What are dimension hierarchies?


Ans- Hierarchical dimensions are those dimensions which have a
parent/child relationship. Dimension hierarchies define structural
and mathematical relationships, and consolidations between
members in the application. Relationships are represented
graphically in a collapsible hierarchy diagram. The levels below the
cube name are dimensions, and the levels below each dimension are
members.
4- List the types of users who must be interviewed for collecting
requirements. What information can you expect to get from them?
Ans-Types of users
1-Senior executive
2-Dept. Managers/Analyst
3-IT Dept. Professionals
Information expects to get from them
1-Primary purpose of the business unit in the enterprise.
2-Secondary purpose of the business unit.
3-Relationship of the business unit to other units to outside
organizations.
4-Relationship of the business unit to the strategic initiatives of the
enterprise.
5-Contribution of the business unit to corporate revenue and costs.
