What’s In

Lesson 1. Plan and Prepare for Configuration of Computer Systems and

Networks.
This lesson is intended to develop your skills in planning and preparing for
configuration of computer system and networks. At the end of this lesson you are expected
to:

1. Follow OHS in planning and preparing for configuration of computer systems and
networks;

2. Look at the pictures below and reflect the innermost importance of such word.

Let’s check your reflection with these guide questions.

1. What is OHS?

2. List some OHS found in the video.

3. Is OHS important? Why & Why Not?

What’s is It

Health and safety are of the outmost importance. People do not just realize just how
dangerous it can be, usually they often ignore the risk involved in opening and operating a
computer. It is vital to stay safe in every working conditions. Whether you are a professional
or a beginner staying safe must be put into priority to prevent troubles and damage to any
person or to any object in a work area.

A safe work space is clean, systematized, and well-lit. A hazardous computer

component must dispose or recycled properly. Make it a habit to follow guidelines that direct
how to dispose specific items. When an individual violates these rules, there can be legal
penalties.
To keep you safe, this module delivers the general and fire safety strategies that protects the
technician and the equipment.

General Safety Strategies

Here are some general safety guidelines:

Fire Safety Guidelines
Make sure that a fire extinguisher is rated for class A, B, & C and it is within a
reasonable distance from your computer installation. If you leave your computer on and
unattended for whatever reason, turn off the monitor during your absence. Monitors generate
high voltage internally which is potential to start an electrical fire.
Note: The switch for the monitor is usually located at the bottom, side or rear of the
screen. Turning off the monitor leaves the computer On and will not disrupt the computers
operation or compromise data losses. When you return, simply turn the monitors back on ant
wait for few seconds to warm up. Ensure that your facilities meet local fire safety codes.
When working with computer components, always consider the possibility of an
accidental fire and prepare how to react.
If there is a fire, you should follow these safety procedures
• Make sure to know all the locations of all exits for a fire escape route before
beginning any work.

https://www.123rf.com/clipart- vector/emergency_exit.html?
sti=mjganq2vxyj4pnqf37|&mediapopup=99439177

• Take a minute to think which way you would go to escape your place.
• Never fight a fire that is out of control or not contained.

https://www.cleanpng.com/free/fire-control.html
• Get out of the building quickly in case of an out-of-control fire.
• Contact emergency services immediately for help.

Now that you are equipped with the knowledge on the OHSP used in configuration,
In these videos, you will learn about more safety measures to undertake before working
troubleshooting computers. To watch the video presentations just type in the following.
