Chapter III
RESEARCH METHOD AND PROCEDURES
This chapter presents the detailed discussion of the research design, respondents of the
study, sampling design, data gathering instrument, data gathering procedure, and statistical
treatment of data.
Research Design
This study will use the descriptive method to gather knowledge about Batangas State
University-JPLPC BSHM students’ challenges encountered in educational productivity during
online classes. One or more variables may be investigated using a descriptive framework. It aids
researchers in obtaining results on the topic.
Descriptive research involved collecting data in order to answer the current discipline and
status of the respondents. It is a basic research method that examines the situation, as it exists
unit current state. Descriptive research involves identification of attributes of a particular
phenomenon based on an observational basis, or the exploration of correlation between two or
more phenomena (Leedy and Ormrod, 2001).
Respondents of the Study
The subjects of the study are the BSHM students of the Batangas State University.
Hence, the target population in this study will be all the BSHM students of the Batangas State
University who were taking online classes. The researchers targeted all the BSHM students in
the University as the respondents of the study. It is open to individuals who are 18 years old and
above, regardless of male or female as long as they are the BSHM student of Batangas State
University-JPLPC Malvar.
Data Gathering Instrument
The researchers used a properly crafted questionnaire and online survey form via Google
Docs to elicit the information required for this analysis. These instruments are practical, time-
saving, and cost-effective. Since there are still no face-to-face classes due to the COVID-19
Pandemic, the researchers opted to use Google Docs as the only way to disseminate all of the
claims in the questionnaire.
There are two sections to a well-designed questionnaire. The first section is the
demographic, which answers questions about the respondent's year level, age, gender, monthly
family income, gadget/s used by the students in online class/es and number of family member
using online classes. This section is crucial because it provided the researchers with detailed
information about the respondent's profile.
The second part of the questionnaire is the survey proper where the main statements or
questions were found. This part gave the researchers a clear understanding and data on the
respondents’ assessment on the challenges that BSHM students encountered in educational
productivity during online class in Batangas State University.
In the self- constructed questionnaire, the researchers will use the following range and
verbal interpretations to determine the equivalent of each result.
Numerical Rating Value Verbal Interpretation
5 Highly Challenging
4 Challenging
3 Moderately Challenging
2 Low Challenging
1 Not Challenging
To interpret the mean and composite mean of the respondent’s assessment Solid Waste
Management Practices during the laboratory classes, the following numerical interpretation were
used:
Scale Range Verbal Interpretation
1.00- 1.80 Highly Challenging
1.81-2.60 Challenging
2.61-3.40 Moderately Challenging
3.41- 4.20 Low Challenging
4.21-5.00 Not Challenging
Data Gathering Procedure
In order to come up with the subject, the researchers will read and review a variety of
online publications, papers, published research, and published and unpublished thesis. They will
send their subject to their research teacher for approval and will wait to agree on it. The
researchers will begin to gather relevant data and literature in order to help and expand their
research.
The researchers will create the questionnaire which was to be validated and accepted by
the researcher’s advisor, panel members, and chairperson. A survey dry run will performed for
16 students who were BSHM students taking online classes in order to determine the reliability
of the sets of questions. The researchers will consolidate their findings and sought through the
advice of a statistician. The survey dry run was good and met the necessary reliability percentage
after obtaining the statistician’s results.
Following that, the researchers will send the official questionnaire to the respondents via
email and Facebook Messenger (link) in Google Docs format. After the dry run, the survey
process will take place for a week.
The researchers will gather information from the entire population of HM students, who
are currently enrolled in the first semester of Academic Year 2020-2021. The researchers will
give the respondents enough time to complete the questionnaire that will be send to them through
a connection to their Facebook messenger account. The questionnaire will retrieve five days after
it had been distributed. To assess the discrepancies in the respondents’ responses, the statistician
will use the One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test. Following that, the statistician will
forward the produced result to the researchers for the official survey result. The survey’s
tabulated results will be submitted to the researchers four days after they were sent it to the
statistician. Every result will be examin, interpret, and accompany by supporting evidence.
Statistical Treatment of Data
Under this, the researchers have used statistical method which helped them to determine
the outcome based on the data gathered.
Frequency and Percentage. This will be used to determine the personal profile of the
respondents in terms of year level, age, sex, monthly family income, gadget/s used by the
students in online class/es and number of family member using online classes. And also, their
assessment on the challenges in educational productivity that BSHM Students encountered during
online Class in Batangas State University.
Weighted Mean. This will be used to assess the challenges that BSHM students
Encountered in Educational Productivity during Online class in Batangas State University
JPLPC-Malvar when grouped according to profile.
T-Test and One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). This will be used also to show the
difference between the respondents’ assessment on the Challenges that BSHM students
Encountered in Educational Productivity during Online class in Batangas State University
JPLPC-Malvar when grouped according to profile.
