ORIGINAL ESSAY
Whether your child plays video games on a portable unit, a television or the Internet, excessive
gaming can affect his life. Video game addiction can be as problematic as gambling and affects
players as young as 8 years old, notes Keith Baker, director of Smith and Jones Addiction
Consultants, in an article for Brigham Young University’s NewsNet. Be aware of the effects of a
video game compulsion to keep your child's hobby in check. He shouldn't be getting anymore
than two hours of screen time per day and this includes time playing games, watching television
and surfing the Internet, according to HealthyChildren.org.

Preoccupation

A video game addiction can be harmful if your child is unable or unwilling to participate in any
interests or extracurricular activities other than gaming. The On-Line Gamers Anonymous
website notes that it may be a sign of an addiction if your child is constantly thinking about his
next video game session, devising ways to get back to the game, abandoning former hobbies that
don’t relate to video games or declining social events with personal interaction because he's
spending time discussing video games on the Internet.

Health Problems
If your child spends all of his free time playing video games and skips meals or loses sleep
because of excessive game play, a video game addiction can negatively impact his health.
Children who spend more than two hours a day in front of a television or video games in lieu of
participating in physical activity may suffer from childhood obesity. In addition, the University
of Texas at Dallas notes that the addiction can lead to such medical issues as backaches,
headaches, eyestrain and carpal tunnel syndrome--pain and numbness that your child may feel in
his wrists, hands, shoulders and elbows.

Suffering Relationships
Relationships with friends and family members may suffer if your child is spending more time
gaming than he is talking to or going out with loved ones. The On-Line Gamers Anonymous
website notes that gaming may be negatively affecting your child's life if he only wants to talk
about video games, lies to cover up the amount of time he spends playing, and argues with you
over his excessive gaming.
Increased Aggression
Video games that feature violent actions and scenarios may lead addicted players to be
desensitized to the violence. Richard Gallagher, director of the NYU Child Study Center’s
Parenting Institute, states that players who become engrossed in first-person shooter-style video
games, for example, may adopt a detached view of society or develop aggressive thoughts and
tendencies.

Poor Performance
Long hours playing video games can negatively affect your child's performance in school if he's
preoccupied with video games. He can fail to work at his optimum level because he's exhausted
from a late night of video game playing. If your child devotes more than one or two hours a day
to television or video games, he may have trouble falling asleep, have problems paying attention
and have lower test scores than other children who don’t spend as much time in front of a
television or video game console.

DREA CHRISTOPHER

SUMARY
Video games can impact children in many ways which are bad for them in real life. Playing
video games over 2 hours per day can aggressively be a problem for such a change inside of
children both mental and physical health. Lack of participation in outdoor activities and always
obsessed about gaming are the first problem. Moreover, children can face with potential risk of
having illness due to the irregular meals. Children who spend much time in playing video games
have less interaction with their family and social network as well. Furthermore, violence in
video games can also influence children’s mentality and they mostly have a tendency to pretend
those aggressive action. Ultimately, both bad physical and mental health from playing video
games can lead to such a bad level of performance in reality.
ESSAY

Teenagers aspire significantly to do many things as possible, for it’s the period that they will
have a big breakthrough stage in their perception. With that in mind, their parents apparently try
to impulse their children with lots of activities which is healthy to children’s brain. However,
that is not what they want to do. Playing games is an activity that emerges plenty of
controversies to prove its advantages. This essay is an attempt to decipher the true beneficial
value of playing games, consisting of the improvement in health, relationship, anger
management, and mutual relationship.

First and foremost, it’s postulated that playing game and not participate in any outdoor activities
is assessed to be detrimental. Although this concept gains recognition in the last five centuries, it
is no more acceptable in the age of innovation and technology. Children have a right to indulge
themselves into the nifty world that they’re interested in. Playing games do not bring any burden
like people usually exaggerate about it. Game and playing game is simply just a mean for them
to connect with other like-minded children, to open their soul with everything they seem to get
attraction. We can’t strictly prohibit children from doing what they‘re yearn for since we
conjecture about it one-sidedly. It’s familiar to see many and many groups of gamers on the
internet and many of them are clans of more than fifty people. Additionally, monthly they always
organize an off-line meeting for their members to share their life in game, about techniques or
tricks to attain easier victory. Central to this entire reunion is the moment when everyone shares
to each other about their story. They gossip about the untold stories, about their background,
their bringing-up period, or they express their problems, some hardships, some hurdles and some
feelings that they find them hard stiff to articulate with their family. From that grounding base,
they unintentionally form many relationships, some are more than friend, lie and stamp in their
heart so strongly. Along with this is Game competition, which is recently appeared on Seagame
2019 in a game DOTA 2. If the team win a medal, this success is treated as national
achievement. As a result, assuming that playing game poisons children’s personality, future, and
awareness is critically unreasonable.

One innovative application of video games in health care is their use in pain
management. The degree of attention needed to play such a game can distract the player from the
sensation of pain, a strategy that has been evaluated. Controlled studies using both random
controlled trials and comparison with patient's own baseline measures show that video games can
provide cognitive distraction for children during chemotherapy for cancer and treatment for
sickle cell disease. All these studies reported that distracted patients had less nausea and lower
systolic blood pressure than controls after treatment and needed fewer analgesics.
Video games have been used as a form of physiotherapy or occupational therapy in many
different groups of people. Such games focus attention away from potential discomfort and,
unlike most traditional therapeutic activities, they do not rely on passive movements and
sometimes painful manipulation of the limbs. Video games have been used as a form of
physiotherapy for arm injuries in training the movements of a 13 year old child with Erb's palsy
and as a form of occupational therapy to increase hand strength. Therapeutic benefits have also
been reported for a variety of adult populations including wheelchair users with spinal cord
injuries, people with severe burns and people with muscular dystrophy. Video games have also
been used in comprehensive programmes to help develop social and spatial ability skills in
children and adolescents with severe learning disability or other developmental problems,
including autism, children with multiple handicaps (for example severely limited acquisition of
speech) and children with impulsive and attention deficit disorders.

Nowadays, more and more adults use Internet as a way to connect to their relatives without
paying fees. Besides, their children play game to communicate with their friends and sometimes,
adults are mistaken about games and their effects. Games don’t bring negative effects like what
mature people think and they just help children relax after hard-working day at school. Games
not only help people be connected but also support people to earn money. At present, a
significant majority of youngers choose playing game as a way to earn money and take care of
their families despite the fact that there are lots of implicit risks that they must be in face of
dangers. Agreeing that children nowadays spend too much time playing video games; however,
our society is a society of technology and it’s difficult to prohibit them from playing games.
Moreover, adults should find out positive effects to know clearly about games and they can
easily find out the way to help their children not to be addicted to games. They should know the
concept that games are good and useful for many purposes but we should control the time we
spend on. On the one hand , games are the way for us to communicate and not cause our
relationships to be broken like what people thought before. According to SITE 1*, he spent so
much time sitting snuggled on the couch playing video games with his two beautiful boys. It
inspired him to write a book about the psychological messaging in video games. In FREEPLAY:
A Video Game Guide To Maximum Euphoric Bliss, he looked at the implicit epistemological
constructions in video games. He questioned the ways of making sense of the world that video
games were teaching my kids, how video games teach us to think. He unpacked the positive
lessons in Frogger, Space Invaders, Super Mario Brothers, and more. He considered the moral
lessons hiding right beneath the surface of this relatively new canon of interactive mythology and
fairy tales. As we clearly seen from the link above, adults can use games as a way to grow their
children up because of their significant positive effects of games.

It’s true that video games can cause lots of violent behavior to the addicted players because of its
violent actions and scenarios. But the game just tend to make a competitive environment for the
players to be more competitive, creative and active in their way of thinking. Action video games
are said to improve visual attention because the players are always on the lookout for something
jumping out to attack them. But this concept could be remodeled to exclude violence. All the
players always want to play a competitive game so that they can rank themselves among the
others players. The more violent and hard the game is, the more competitive and motivated the
players become. Video games are not always violent , how violent the game is depends on the
age of the players. Players which are under 16 are often affected by the violence , while the rest
think that’s just a game and they want to win the game . This kind of violent game usually
improve mood and ward of anxiety for teenagers . The game also teaches young player how to
cope with failure. A University of Oxford study by experimental psychologist Andrew K.
Przybylski, published in the August, 2014, issue of the journal Pediatrics, found that less than an
hour of gaming a day was associated with pro-social behavior and higher life satisfaction
compared to kids who didn't play. Researchers have studied a meta-analysis of video games and
concluded that the positive effects of violent games included improvement in a player’s
capability of thinking in different dimensions, just the way some academic courses do. So the
violent video games are not as bad as we think . It just not appropriate for the players which are
not old enough to play that violent games. The video games is just a part that affect our brain
,there are still many factors that affect our behavior .
Finally , much people think that playing games can make their children performances reduced .
However , games can help teenagers improve themselves in many sides . For example , action in
games force players to make smart decisions in a moment . Moreover , they - players – must pay
attention in the games in order to deal with unexpected changes in the game . Beside action
games , researchers have found that strategic games can aid teen in improving problem-solving
skills so as to get better at solving things in real life . Not only help young adolescents to
improve their social skills but games can also help them to word off anxiety : fun games can
bring happiness , relaxation and “ fundamental emotional benefit “ – Granic ( researcher ) ,
which teach them how to cope with failures in their lives .

In conclusion , games have many benefits and positive effects on players but not much people
already known . More and more companies which developing games are trying to make games
with lots of positive things in order to help players improving themselves while playing games .
However , if you want to keep healthy , try not to be addicted to games .
