FOREWORD
Safety & Environment Protection is an integral part of
industry. With increase in social awareness and new
complex technologies, no business organization can
grow without this approach.

I am happy that revised edition of Safety and
Environment Protection Manual of Marketing Division of

our organization has been brought out. This will up-date the knowledge on
Safety & Environment related issues.

This manual aims at ‘Total Safety Management’ and gives guidelines for
adopting precautionary measures against unsafe conditions at locations. I
believe that contents of this manual will help in maintaining normal and safe
operations at our locations.

PREFACE
Last Safety and Environment Protection Manual of Marketing Division was published
in 1979. Safety management in Process Industry, specially in Petroleum Industry of
India has undergone extensive changes since then. Old statutory provisions and norms
have been modified and new regulations have been made to suit the requirements of
present time. New technologies have replaced old systems. Safety Management is no
Longer limited to a few items only but has become a management field. With this
background,S&EP Manual of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. Marketing Division, has been
re-drafted.

This Manual covers all areas where the Management of a Marketing location must
work to operate it safely. It does not cover detailed design, fabrication and other
engineering practices which are included in various codes and other in-house manuals.

It is hoped that the contents of Manual will help in maintaining and improving
atmosphere of safe operations in our Installations.
