Directions. Answer the following question based on
the case study.

1. What was the document/artifact says?


The document/artifacts say all of the sacrifices
did Rizal experiences during his imprisonment.

2. What was the content of the primary source’s


production?
The content of the primary source was all about
the life of Jose Rizal during his last hour of his life.
It declares all the sacrifices of Rizal, the sacrifices
that is being witnessed by all and especially he
fought not with the use of swords or other
equipment’s but with all of his knowledge and with
the use of his thinking skills.

3. What was the provenance or source of the


document/artifact?
The provenance or source of the document
was from the document found by Fr. Manuel
Garcia, C.M. on 18 May 1935 it was all
witnessed by him and done during the last hour
of Rizal. And also from Michael Charleston
Chua, Retraction ni Jose Rizal Bagong
Dokumento at Pananaw,” GMA News Online,
published 29 December 2016.

4. Based on what you have read, did Rizal retract?


Explain your answer.
Yes, Rizal retracts to them but not in physical but
in intellectual and intelligence quotient. He used all
of his knowledge to fight, he fight with firm
foundation so that he get the wants of all Filipinos.

5. Who is the author of the Primary Source?


The author of the primary source was Fr. Manuel
Garcia, C.M and Michael Charleston Chua, they are
the brave author who wrote all of he witnessed
during the time that Rizal was bring killed.

pages. At the back of the photo was a fine
inscription that says “Kalamba, 19 de Junio
1861.” Is the photograph a primary, secondary
or a tertiary source?

in a small elementary school in Mauban, Quezon.
Her colleagues gave her the new textbooks that
she ought to use in class. Before the class started,
Lorena studied the textbook carefully. She noted
that the authors used works from historians in
writing the textbook. She saw that the
bibliography included Teodoro Agoncillo’s The
Revolt of the Masses and The Fateful Years:
Japan’s Adventure in the Philippines, 1941-45.
She also saw that the authors used Ma. Luisa
Camagay’s Working Women of Manila During the
19th Century and many others. Is the textbook a
primary, secondary, or a tertiary source?

3. Axcell Visited the United States for a


few months to see his relatives who have
lived there for decades. His uncle brought
him on tours around Illinois. Axcell visited
the Field Museum of Natural History where
a golden image of a woman caught his
eye. Axcell looked closer and read that the
image was called “The Golden Tara”. It
originated from Agusan Del Sur and was
bought by the museum in 1922. It was
believed to be made prior to the arrival of
the Spaniards in
the Philippines. Is the sculptor a primary,

4. It was Ramon’s first day in his first year college in a
big university. His excitement made him come to
class unusually early and he found their classroom
empty. He explored the classroom and sat at the
teacher’s table and saw a book entitled U.G. An
Underground Tale: The Journey of Edgar Jopson and
the First Quarter Storm Generation. He started
reading book and realized that it was a biography of
a student leader turned political activist during the
time of Ferdinand Marcos. The author of the used
interviews with friends and family of Jopson, and
other primary documents related to his works and
life. Is the book a primary, secondary, or a tertiary

5. Psyche love to travel around the country. She liked
bringing her travel brochure that informs her of the
different sites worth visiting in the area. Her travel
brochure was usually product by the tourism
department of the province. It shows pictures of the
destinations visited by tourist and a few basic
information about the place like the origin of the
name, the historical significant of the place, and
some other information acquired by the office’s
researchers and writers. Is the travel brochure a
primary, secondary, or a tertiary source?

Directions: Use the case study, evaluate the case using the
format below and use the guide words to fulfill the activity.

I. INTRODUCTION

 Hook sentence
Jose Rizal is identified as a hero of the revolution for his writings
that center on ending colonialism and liberating Filipino minds to
contribute to creating the Filipino Nation. The great volume of Rizal’s
lifework was committed to this end, particularly the more influential
ones, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. His essays vilify not the
Catholic religion but the friars, the main agents of injustice in the
Philippine Society.

 Topic Introduction

Jose Rizal is our Philippine hero, he fight for the freedom of the
Filipino’s. He fights with his knowledge against to the people who
make Filipino’s slave. Many things done by Rizal, what we do is to
give thanks on him, for all of the sacrifices he has done for us.

 Background information

It is understandable, therefore, that any piece of writing from Rizal


that recants everything he wrote against friars and the Catholic
Church in the Philippines could deal heavy damage to his image as a
prominent by Rizal a few hours before his execution. This document,
referred to as “The Retraction”, declares Rizal’s belief in the catholic
faith, and retracts everything he wrote against the Church

 Case statement

Jose Rizal given a death row accompanied by his counsel, but


before Rizal given a death row they first ask them what he wants they
give all things but the only things that Rizal asked was a prayer book.
By this moment, Jose Rizal was not just a hero but he has a heart of
being a Christian, he is not afraid on what they did on him because he
prayed first to God. December 30, 2016 at 5pm Rizal was being death
in a row with a firing squad of Chief Senor Del Fresno and the
assistant of the plaza.
II. BODY PART

 Did Rizal Retract?
Jose Rizal fight for our nation, he is a hero of ours, he fight
for the colonialism to get the freedom of the Filipino. But, did
Rizal retract? Yes! Based on the document found by Fr.
Manuel Garcia, C.M. on 18 May 1935, Rizal is a Catholic and
this Religion is in which was born and educated and wish to
love and die on which he is born, on the other hand Rizal
retract with all his heart, in words, writings, publications and in
knowledge without knowing that he is in the end of the hour
because he is accused with death. There are four iterations of
the texts of this retraction; the first was published in La Voz
Espanola and Diario de Manila on the day of the execution, 30
December 1986. The second text appeared in Barcelona,
Spain, in the magazine La Juventud, a few months later on
revealed to be Fr. Vicente Balaguer. However, the “original”
text was only found in the archdioscesan archives on 18 May
1935, after almost four decades of disappearance.

 Eyewitness Account of the Last Hour of Rizal


During the days of Jose Rizal he has done many things
for the Filipinos. He fights with all of his heart. He fight in
terms of knowledge without any doubting, all he wants is to
help the Filipino to get the freedom they are fighting for.
December 2016, without knowing this is the month when
Rizal killed. Michael Charleston Chua, is the one who
witnessed the death hour of Rizal, At 7:50 morning of 29,
December Rizal entered death row with the counsel of the
chief of firing squad. But before they put Rizal on the death
end, they sure to give all he wants but Rizal wants is the
prayer book bought by Father March. At 3 in the afternoon,
Rizal brought to the chapel by Father March, and he signed
the document that written that he is guilt. And then At 5 this
morning of the 30th, on where Rizal has now entered the
death row. All Filipinos felt sad on what they do to Rizal.
And as always we do, we always celebrate Rizal day on
December 30.
