Mathematics is always part of our daily life but we have no idea that there is still
something extraordinary in it that we haven't figured out. Science Documentary’s “The
Math Mystery Mathematics in Nature and Universe” showed the hidden and deep
mathematical mysteries in our nature and humanity. This documentary explained that
mathematics is not just a subject to learn, a topic to discuss, a number to memorize or a
problem to be solved; yet it is one of the greatest inventions of humanity because the
language of mathematics is a powerful tool that works effectively and can clearly
represent everything that we should know as a human being. They proved mathematics
as an essential discovery because it regulates the entire cosmos, allowing it to control
all of the known universe functions. It also demonstrates that developers can prove
mathematics is ingrained in our nature that when it comes to comprehending things,
everything is mathematical. Therefore, nature has been the source of many
mathematical notions and patterns discovered by scientists. Nature helps us figure out if
mathematics is either invented or discovered, or maybe it is both. In short, the questions
about nature and humanity can be answered through mathematics.
I would like to point out that before watching this documentary, I only thought of
mathematics as a subject that we should study in school; where we add, minus,
subtract and divide but after watching it, I realized that when you go smaller and
smaller, mathematics is something different. I agree that mathematics is complicated
but this complexity is significant for everyone due to its inevitability in our daily lives.
Consider for a moment what the world would be like without math; how can we develop
a program if we don't have statistics? How can we perceive time without the numbers?
How will we know the probability of something without math? Therefore, we should
accept the fact that even in the simplest detail of something, mathematics is present.
I truly admired how the documentary illustrated and discussed how mathematics is
present in everything; First, the relationship of Fibonacci sequence and the petals of a
flower, it’s amazing that a flower’s petal follows a pattern of numbers. Second, the entire
code of a program is just a field of number and equations resulting that every program

developed is connected with mathematics. Thus, you cannot use any applications such
as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram without mathematics. Third, at the first glance, you
perceive pictures about their designs and colors. However, when you zoom it, you can
see that a picture is just a combination of pixels, then pixels can be expressed as a
single number. Fourth, a string in a musical instrument uses formulas in order to
produce different sound and rhythms. Lastly, animals can do mathematics too. Lemurs
and rhesus monkey can identify numbers and compare quantities that helps them
choose the right choices. Through these examples, we can comprehend and explain a
variety of things including complicated phenomena that occur in our world using
mathematics. It is fascinating that when you investigate deeper about something, you
can see how mathematics is visible in every certain detail of every single thing.
Therefore, I believe that mathematics is designed to be part of our nature.
