LESSON PLAN

I. Objectives
• To identify the Noun: Its kinds in proper and common nouns
• To write sentences using both common and proper nouns
• To share the importance of proper and common nouns in our daily living

II. Subject Matter


Topic: The Noun and its Kinds of Noun: Common Noun and Proper Noun
Reference: English for a Brighter World 3
Materials: cartolina, cartolina strips, masking tape, chalk, marker

A. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
“Class, let us rise for our prayer. The assigned pupil will go in front of
(The teacher will call a pupil to lead the prayer). the class and will lead the prayer.

2. Mood Setting
“Good morning class!” “Good morning teacher Raisa !”
“You may now sit down.”

3. Checking of Attendance
“Who are absents for today?” The secretary will tell the absentee/s
for today.
4. Review
“Ok class, before we proceed to our new lesson for today, can you
recall on what you had learned yesterday?” “Yes teacher!”
“What part of speech that tells the names of a
person, thing, place, animal, event, or idea?” “The Noun teacher!”
Correct!
Now, give me an example of a name of a person…” “Laisa teacher.”
“Very good!
Give me an example of a place… “Davao City teacher.”
“Great! How about name of an event… “Christmas teacher.”
“Very good!
What about a name of an idea? “Honesty teacher.”
“Very good!
Now, give me examples of names of animals… “Dog teacher.”
“Birds teacher.”
“Very good!
Give me an example of a name of a thing… “Pencil teacher.”
“For those who answered correctly, let’s give them 5 claps with
excellent! The pupils will clap 5x with excellent!

5. Motivation
“Class, here’s a dialog between Ana and Lara. They were sharing
experiences during their Christmas vacation. I need two girls to
enact the dialog.
The teacher will call two girls in the class.
Two girls will go in front of the
class and read the conversation.

Here is the dialog.

Ana: I had a wonderful experience last


Christmas vacation with my family.

Lara: Really, why?

Ana: We went to different places like Subic in


Zambales, Hundred Islands in Pangasinan and a hotspring in Laguna.

Lara: Wow! I am glad to hear that Ana. Louie,


my brother, and I went to visit our grandmother in the province of Nueva Ecija. We have a great vacation,
too!
“Thank you girls!” and let’s give them 3 claps with great!

B. Developmental Activity
1. Lesson Proper
The teacher will ask the pupils
regarding the dialog that they read.
“Who were the characters in the dialog?” “The characters mentioned in the
dialog are Ana and Lara

“What are the places Ana had visited?” “The places Ana had visited are Subic in
Zambales, Hundred
Islands in Pangasinan, and hotspring in
Laguna.
“What is the place Lara had visited?” “The province in Nueva Ecija.”

“Now, underline all the nouns found in the conversation.” The pupils will underline
The teacher will call pupils who will do the task. the nouns in the dialog.

2. Analysis
“Class, what have you noticed to the underlined nouns?” “Teacher, some nouns begins
with capital/big letter while the
other nouns begins with small
letter.”
“Very good!”
-“And why do we call these words nouns? “Teacher because these words
are names of persons and places
“Very good!”

The teacher will discuss and explain the


definition and description of the two kinds
of nouns: Common Nouns and Proper Nouns.

“Alright class listen, nouns can be classified


into common and proper. A noun that refers to
a specific or particular name of a person, place,
animal, thing, event or idea is called proper nouns.
And it begins with capital letter.”
“A noun that refers to a general or common names
of a person, place, thing, animal, event or idea is
called common nouns. And it begins with small letter.”

Here are some examples of proper and common nouns.

3. Activity
The teacher will call 10 pupils to answer this activity. Each of them will be given a
cartolina strips containing a noun. They will have to identify whether it is a proper or a common noun. If it
is a proper noun, they have to give its counterpart in common noun. If it is a common noun, they will have
to give its counterpart in proper noun.

4. Abstraction
“Class, what are the differences between proper noun and
common noun?” “Teacher, the proper nouns
tell the specific names of a
persons, places, things, animals, events,
or ideas. While the
common nouns tell the general names
of persons, places, thing, animals,
events or ideas.

5. Evaluation
Directions: Look for the noun(s) in each sentence. Write it in the proper column.

Think of a place you and your family would
