Internal Assessment Test 02

Sub. Code & Name: PE8091 & CHEMICAL REACTION ENGINEERING Sem /Year : V / III
Max.Marks: 50
Duration: 1.30 Hrs
PART A - (10 x 2 = 20 marks)

1. What is a recycle reactor?

2. Define recycle ratio and give its significance
3. What is auto thermal reaction?
4. Write the Design equation for continuous stirred tank reactor.
5. Define space time and space velocity
6. What are applications of batch reactor?
7. Distinguish between holding time and space time for flow reactor.
8. Define recycle reactor.
9. What are auto-catalytic reactions?
10. Define Damkohler number.

PART B - (2 x 15 =30 marks)

11. (a) Derive an expression for a continuous flow recycle reactor.

Or

(b) Consider a gaseous feed CA = 100, CB0 = 200 to a steady-flow reactor operated at
constant T and P. The isothermal gas phase reaction tacking place is A+B → R+S for
XA= 0.8, find CA , CB and XB .

12. (a) A gaseous fuel feed of pure A with CA0 = 2 mol/l and FA0 = 100 mol/min decomposes
to give a verity of products in a plug flow reactor 22 l. The kinetics and stoichiometry
of the reaction are given by A → 2.5 products, -rA = 10min-1 CA. Find the conversion
of A in the reactor.
Or

(b) A aqueous feed of A and B 400 l/min with C A0 = 100 mmol/l and CB0 = 200 mmol/l is
to be converted to product in a plug flow reactor. The kinetics of the reaction given by
A + B → R, -rA = 200 CA CB , mol/(l.min) . Find the volume of reactor required to
achieve 99% conversion of A.
