WASH assignment
1. Wash is the collecting term of water, sanitation and hygiene. Due to their interdependent
nature, these three core issues are grouped together represent a growing sector.
While each is separate field of work, each is dependent on the present of the other for
example, without toilets, water sources become contaminated without clean water
hygiene practices are possible.
Therefore, without access to basic water and sanitation services, and without the practice
of good hygiene, the danger of diarrhea, cholera and other disease out breaks is high.
Water is an inorganic, transparent, tasteless, odorless, and nearly colorless chemical
substance, which is the main constituent o earth’s hydrosphere and the fluids of the living
organisms.
Hygiene refers to those behaviors or practices that an affect the health of an individual
and others either positively or negatively.
These practices include but not limited to collection, storage and use of water, washing
hands at critical moments, the availability and proper use of sanitation facilities.
Sanitation is the physical infrastructure that enable people to practice hygienic behaviors.
It refers to the use of facilities that keep the environment clean or protect the environment
from pollution or contamination. Importance of water Insufficient water content in the
human body results in severe dehydration, which is often accompanied by kidney failure,
seizures, and swelling in the brain. Water helps improve the circulation of oxygen
throughout the body. It also plays a crucial role in the digestion of food. Water is a very
important component of saliva, which helps break down food. The excretion of waste in
the human body requires water. Insufficient water levels in the body may increase the
strain on the kidneys, resulting in the formation of kidney stones.
2. Hygiene refers to those behaviors or practices that an affect the health of an individual

 Rehabilitation or digging of shallow wells

 Promotion of good practices in water disposal, hand wash, water transport,
storage and use of latrines.
6. Activities of sanitation
 Construction of household latrines
 Safe disposal of human excrete
 Promote of use maintenance of latrines
7. Importance of water
