2 Safety
2.1 User Qualification
All activities involving this laser engraver should be done in accordance with the instructions in this manual.

2.2 Laser Safety

1) The laser will easily burn nearby combustible materials.

2) Some working materials may produce radiation or
harmful gases during processing.
3) Direct exposure to the laser WILL cause bodily harm.

2.4 Material Safety
This machine can be safely used with the following materials:
Plastics
• Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS)
• Nylon (Polyamide, PA, etc.)*
• Polyethylene (PE)*
• High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE, PEHD, etc.)*
• Biaxially-Oriented Polyethylene Terephthalate (BoPET, Mylar, Polyester, etc.)
• Polyethylene Terephthalate Glycol (PETG, PET-G, etc.)
• Polyimide (PI, Kapton, etc.)
• Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA, Acrylic, Plexiglass, Lucite, etc.)
• Polyoxymethylene (POM, Acetal, Delrin, etc.)
• Polypropylene (PP, etc.)
• Styrene

* Low energy settings are recommended when processing these materials due to their low melting points.

Others
• Leather
• Paper & Paperboard
• Rubber (see below)
• Textiles, including Cotton, Suede, Felt, and Hemp
• Wood, including MDF, Plywood, Balsa, Birch, Cherry, Oak, Poplar, etc.

See §4.5.4 for the recommended parameters for the most commonly engraved materials.

This machine CANNOT be used upon the following materials:

• Metals, due to their conductivity and reflectivity
• Polycarbonate (PC, Lexan, etc.), due to its toxic fumes
• Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC, Vinyl, Cintra, etc.), due to its toxic fumes

ANY material including chlorine is UNSAFE to process using a laser engraver due to the toxicity of the fumes created.

4.2.8 Mirror 2 to Mirror 3

4.2.9 Mirror 3 to the Nozzle

After making sure all three mirrors are properly aligned, you can check the accuracy of the laser beam exiting the laser head. First,
unplug the air assist hose. Next, place a piece of tape under the laser head and press it up onto the nozzle with enough force to
create a ring indentation in the tape. Press Pulse to fire the laser and remove the piece of tape. Check for the position of the burn
hole relative to the circular indentation created by the laser head nozzle.

Repeat the steps and adjustments as above using the set screws on the back of the laser head until the laser is firing very close to
the center of the circular indentation. When the laser is well centered, your laser mirrors are all correctly calibrated and (assuming
they are clean) performing at optimum efficiency.

4.2.10 Plunge Test (optional)

To check the plunge and straightness of the laser path down from the laser head, you will need a transparent acrylic block. Place
the acrylic focus tool on the acrylic block. Place both under the laser head and raise the bed until the focus tool makes contact
with the laser head nozzle. Remove the tool, close the cover, and press Pulse for about 8 seconds.

16
Examine the path made by the laser beam. If it is noticeably at an angle, you should adjust the direction of the beam using the
screws on the back of the laser head as above. Keep in mind that deviation only in the lower part of the acrylic block will only be
noticeable when cutting thick materials and have minimal effect on engraving or cutting thin materials.
