Task 2

Rizal is considered the Philippines' national hero by many historians due to his characteristics of fighting for reforms through non-violent means using his skills and intelligence, rather than weapons. Some historians claim that the Americans endorsed Rizal as the national hero because his non-violent reform aligned with their assimilation policies at the time. While Rizal was an American-sponsored hero, he is deserving of the title because he inspired other heroes of the Philippines who fought the Spanish through violent means, and the KKK revolutionary group was founded and led by Andres Bonifacio in idolization of Rizal. TASK 2

Hero or Not?
Many historians argue whether or not Jose Rizal can be considered as our National Hero. In an
argumentative essay, review the status of Rizal as a national hero by answering the following questions:
 What characteristics of Rizal did historians consider for them to regard him as our national hero? (cite
evidences)
 Based on the claims of various historians, do you consider Rizal as your national hero?

Among the country’s heroes, one of them are stand out and become our National
Hero His name is Dr. Jose P. Rizal. He was choosing to fight the Spaniards with the
used of his skills, talents, and intelligence in a peaceful way rather than using weapons
like guns and sword. According to historian Renato Constantino (1969) claimed that the
Americans was responsible for endorsing Jose Rizal as the Philippines National Hero.
Another historian Teodoro Agoncilio (1986) writes that Rizal was acceptable as a
national hero to Americans because he was the symbol of assimilation, which was their
policy then in the philippines.
Yes, he was an American-sponsored hero because he opted for a non-violence
reform in the government and that is the one reason why he became the national hero
of the republic of the Philippines. For me he deserved to be National Hero why?
Because the other heroes of the Philippines who fought in the Spaniards for our
freedom like Andres Bonifacio and etc. was idolized him for his reform. One thing more
that in the history it stated there that the reason why Jose Rizal was arrest was because
he was the leader of the KKK, which Andres Bonifacio used because he was idolizing
Jose Rizal. Therefore, for me Jose Rizal is a true hero because he was very skillful and
talented to take an revolt that the Spaniards didn’t know.
