LESSON PLAN IN PHILIPPINE ENGLISH 

I. Objectives:  At the end of 50 minute-period, the student should be able to:

1. Describe the importance of the lingua franca- Taglish


2. Distinguish bakya crowds from urban intelligentsia through constructing their own sentences.
3. While learning about social hierarchy during the 1970s, the goal of this lesson is to have students
know the nimble negotiation of linguistic registers and the social domains.

II. Subject Matter: 

Taglish

A. Topic: Taglish, or the phantom power of the lingua franca

B. References: Philippine English Linguistic and Literary Perspectives

D. Concepts: 

 Taglish, or the phantom power of the lingua franca also known as a common language. 
 “Ikabod” and the politics of Taglish
 Taglish has been a good response during the Marcos regime when they attempt to hide its
profligacy and contain rumors about its ill-gotten wealth. One of the famous cartoonists, Marcelo,
portrayed a scene of hearing someone who has arrogated to himself the sole right to overhear,
thereby seeing what was not meant to be seen.

E. Processes:   Observing, Comparing, Characterizing, Communicating

F. Infused Value: Taglish was also used for political purposes apart from portraying social hierarchy. 

G. Integration: Literacy Skills


H. Value Integration: Taglish in contemporary movies, then, functions to domesticate the crowd into
consumers receptive to the alternating invocation and revocation of linguistic hierarchy. 

III. Procedure/Teaching Strategy:

A. ELICIT

Warm-up Intro: Review about the topic that has been discussed by the last reporter

Eliciting many examples from the student, and thus giving courage to share such knowledge in these
examples given. 

B. ENGAGE

1. Review: Present a powerpoint slide. To check the previous learning the teacher will ask if they
understood the previous lesson.
 Direction: In the activity, the student will share his/her own understanding about the las topic
discussed. 

2. Motivation:
             The teacher will introduce a guessing game
            Ask:
 What is the other term for lingua franca 
 A cheap wooden clog 
 A language always in conjunction with english and spanish

C. EXPLORATION

A. Activity
This time, we will be doing a written activity to find out the effects of the lingua franca 

In this intriguing activity, students write their answers on a paper. Afterwards, there is a class feedback
session to find out about some of the things the student discussed.
 

D. EXPLANATION

 The teacher will check the topic output.

            ASK:  How do you feel about the activity?


                     What did you learn from the activity?
                   What do you call the aspect that focuses on the general idea of an activity?
      What did you discover about the discussion?

      E. ELABORATION

 Using the PowerPoint presentation, the teacher gives additional  background of information about
the phantom power of lingua franca.

  Direction: Analyze the following comic strips. Then discuss the context so that it will be fully
understood and assessed.

  Read and make a list of advantages and disadvantage of Taglish as a lingua franca of mass media
