This study examines the teacher perceptions of student misbehavior and its effects on academic performance at Marasbaras National High School. The researchers surveyed 12 teachers at the school. Common misbehaviors included students being shy or not participating in class, while the rarest was leaving class early. Teachers indicated they maintained respect to discourage misbehavior. The study recommends strategies for teachers and parents to address misbehavior and support student learning and development.

Chapter V

SUMMARY

This study focuses more about the misbehavior of the grade 10 students

on Marasbaras National High School and its effect to their academic performance.

Above more it is the teacher’s perception about the study they are focusing with.

The researchers chose 12 Grade 10 teacher’s to be their respondents. The research

investigation took place inside the premises of Marasbaras National High School.

The researchers made a survey questionnaire with two parts which will help them

to gather data and give them a possible solution to their problem.

Student’s misbehavior is a very broad issue in school, not only in

Marasbaras National High School but also in different schools. But then, the

researchers tried to make a study about the “Teacher’s perception to the students

misbehavior and its effect on the academic performance of the grade 10 students

in Marasbaras National High School”, in order to search for a solution of this

problem.

This study is very crucial to the student, teachers, parents, and also to the

future researchers. This study could lead the students to renew their behavior as

well as the teachers. They may have benefits on this study because it may teach

them on how to improve not only the behavior of the students but also their skills.

Also, this study would help the parents in such way that they may guide their

children in reaching goals with nice behavior. Most likely, to the future
researchers, this study can give ideas and information to conduct their study less

difficult.

Behavior plays a very important role in our life, it can really affect the

personality and identification of someone, so if ever student’s misbehavior

continues to occur, his/her life may become miserable in times of finding jobs.

Most of the employers do not look up with the grades or the school

performance of someone looking for a job, they mostly look up for the good sided

of the hiring employee. Therefore doing misbehavior act can affect someone’s

future.

Self-confidence is also a target of misbehavior, it may become too much

or it may lack. Too much self-confidence can result an individual to have too

much pride while lacking of self-confidence can result to a weak performance not

only in work but also in the life of every individual.

If misbehavior of the students could be lessen, we can see so much

improvement in our economy because an individual could be easily hired if they

have a nice behavior.

The importance of this study is for the teachers, parents, students, and

specially for the researchers. Because some students have bad attitudes and the

point of this study is to prevent and control the misbehavior of the students in

Marasbaras National High School. So, teachers must do something and have a

better strategy to make their students behave, and also to their parents should

motivate their child and teach good manners to prevent the misbehavior of their
children. For the students and the researchers, they should cooperate to their

parents and to their teachers. Student must know mistakes and students must be

matured enough.

CONCLUSION

Based on the results and findings presented, these are the conclusions

made by the researchers. Shyness or non-participation in class is the common

student’s misbehavior that the teachers here on MNHS observed and being

encountered in their class. And the rarest misbehavior of the students is leaving

early in class.

Also, the researchers found out that the common ways that the teachers

do in order to discipline their students is to show that teachers are worth the

respect. In that way, students will not be wild or cruel inside the classroom and

they will have their nice behavior.

RECOMMENDATION

Based on the summary and conclusion, the researches recommended

some ways that can prevent misbehavior problems that can affect the academic

performance. Misbehavior in the classroom disrupts student’s attention and

negative impacts in the learning environment. Students should develop their

social interaction with the teachers and students not only active in social media

devices because they tend to be not interested on the lesson be maybe it is boring

or they don’t know what to do or say in front of because they are not mentally

prepared. The class they are not confident enough to say in front of the class.
Student should try and experience participating so that it will be no hard for them

when coming the hardest time of their life. Like, when going to collage they are

prepared for the challenges when the time comes. Teachers should motivate them

in joining some school activities and participate in class in order for them to

develop, improve and enhance their talents and skills, especially their

socialization in any aspects. And students must participate in class or school

activities because it will help for them to socialize towards different individuals in

order the students to not be out of place whenever there is an activity made by the

class or by the school. Monitor the students closely, because students who are

feeling “physically present but mentally absent” more likely they misbehave than

those who assume they are not being watched. It is recommended to the teachers

observe regularly and checking on the students progress and give suggestions who

has misbehavioral problems in class throughout the school year. Model

appropriate behavior, teachers need to be careful in uttering some words to the

students that might cause mixed messages about the teachers expect from them.

Set a possible example by showing high levels of patience, organization, courtesy

and enthusiasm. Expect the students to use quiet “inside” voices. Teachers must

speak at that volume as well. And have regular class meetings if the members of a

classroom are struggling with the same problems or if the particular issue gets out

of hand, call a classroom meeting. Making it clear what is unacceptable about the

student’s behavior and why. Ask the class for suggestions on ways to improve the

situation and to keep it from coming up again. This gives students a chance to

participate in the problem-solving process and contribute their own ideas on how
to stop misbehavior from happening. Stay calm, when students misbehaves

because it will show frustration and time consuming of the lesson when

attempting to put a stop to misbehavior in an angry state, it will easily sense their

lack of control. Instead take a deep breath and try to handle the situation as calmly

as possible. And use nonverbal cues to let the students know teachers need of

their attention. Ring the bell or come up with hand signal that alert the students to

be quiet, instead of raising the teacher’s voice to settle them down. Discuss these

cues with the class before implementing it, so that the students know exactly what

they mean and how they should respond to them.

Not only in the classroom that starts their misbehavior, but starts on

the way they adapt their behaviors at home. Parents should pay more attention and

guidance to the children when is comes to their behaviors. For them to know the

behaviors they show in class. Make time for the children to know what are they

doing in school or at home, have family bondings together. Be a good role model,

because the way they punish them is the way they see it right to do to their

children in the future. Talk it calmly and give attention otherwise that may lead to

misbehaving. Show that the parents love unconditionally to their children. There’s

no perfect parent but they should try to make parenting a manageable job. The

parents are responsible in correcting and guiding their children. But how they

express their corrective and guidance makes all the difference in how the child

receives it. Focusing on the needs does not make a parent selfish. It simply means

caring about the own well-being, which is another important value to model the

children.
