Global Warming Assignment

Science is about asking questions and seeking out answers to your questions. Global warming is
an environmental issue now and will continue to be in the future. Global warming is a very broad
topic, and for this project, I want you to narrow down your focus and seek out a specific answer.
For this project you will pick a topic surrounding global warming and present your argument and
findings. I want your presentation to convince anyone who sees or reads it that your stance is
important. For this project some possible topics for your project are:

- Should we be concerned about global warming?

- Is ozone depletion a threat?
- Why is glacial melt a concern?
- How has global warming affected Alberta?
- How can global warming be slowed?
- Why global warming is not an issue

Some questions you should be answering are:

- What is global warming?
- How is global warming different from the greenhouse effect?
- Why should we care about your topic
- How is your topic going to impact the future
- What started global warming in the first place
- What is the science behind global warming

Some possible ways to present your assignment are:

- Poster
- Brochure/ Pamphlet
- Newspaper Article
- Video
- Other ways as long as approved by teacher first

CITE YOUR SOURCES

Day 1- You should have your partner set up and the topic you will be doing. You should also have decided
how you would like to present your topic (poster, brochure, etc). You should not be already creating your
poster or brochure. You must first do research and then organize your findings before you start creating.

Day 2- This is when you should be doing your research, and gathering all of your findings.

Day 3- This is when you should have your findings, and begin to organize and structure them. You have
your information sorted, and ready to start your presentation.

Day 4- This is when you should be starting to create your presentation and getting your information onto
paper.

Day 5- This is when you should finish getting your information onto your presentation and making it look
as good as you possibly can. This is when you should be putting on the last finishing touch and ready to
hand in.
Science 8 Unit E

4
All of the required information is included and is presented clearly and in depth. It is
evident that the process chosen is clearly understood by the student and goes
beyond including only the basic information. All content included is correct and
clearly shows connection between what has been learned in class to the real-world.
Content is thoughtfully curated, and everything presented is relevant to the given
task.

3
All of the required information is included and is presented in a manner that is
understood. Students have demonstrated a surface level understanding of their
chosen topic. All content is correct, and some connection between what has been
learned in class to the real-world. Content is properly curated and is relevant.

2
Most of the required information is included. Presentation of content is slightly
confusing and misleading. Students have demonstrated that they have just begun to
understand their topic, but are missing some relevant and important information.
There has been little attempt to connect what is learned in class to the real-world.
Content curated is okay, but does not show any breadth.

1
Student did not meet the requirements of this assignment. Little attempt has been
made to meet the expectations of the assignment as there is little information present
to demonstrate the students' understanding. Evidence of research into their topic is
slight or none at all, and there is little to no thought gone into the presentation of their
chosen topic.
