The Capstone strand I have chosen is Project

Proposed title for my Project Proposal: (write the proposed title for your Capstone Project in one clear
sentence): How can I effectively paint my life on canvas while improving my new techniques on oil painting?

What is your inquiry question that interests you for further research? It should be a question that
connects with a purpose, passion or personalized area of interest for you. This is a question that you cannot
just google an answer for. Please see examples from your Capstone booklet.

My inquiry question is:

Can I develop my own surrealism style painting with original image that conveys my story? Very interesting

Rationale/context: Detail your reasons for choosing this inquiry question. Explain WHY you are choosing to
investigate this topic as a major area of focus. How does this area of inquiry connect to your passion(s),
purpose? Why is it of personal interest to you?

I was always into drawing with pencil; however, I did not try painting with oil paint on canvas, nor I have tried to make
an autobiographic painting (any type of painting that contains my life story). I have always enjoyed creating art, but
those art did not have my soul in it as I was not honest enough on the canvas or paper to paint/draw about my own
life.
I liked doing art in my own time, researching new techniques, or visiting museums and looking at popular
paintings. I would like to create my own piece of that caliber.

Background: What background knowledge/connections/prior learning do you have in this area of inquiry?

I am currently in the process of making my portfolio for art college.

My intended career area is, as stated above, a field in fine arts.

Interdisciplinary and core competencies connections: What subject areas and core competencies will
be connected with your project? Outline and explain the connections.

This will be connect with creative thinking and critical thinking as I need to generate new ideas and critically analyze my
skill and think of ways to improve on it.

You will need to choose 12 of the curricular competencies (2 from each sub category) and connect them to your project
for your final Capstone project.

Capstone Presentation medium: select one or more project mediums you wish to use to present your
project. Outline and give details about how you will present your project once completed. You may use a
combination of mediums.

Electronic portfolio, I would photograph every step and upload onto a ppt format with each slide showing the
steps and short explanations.

Description of my Capstone project. Specific Project Details of the Capstone Project: what will you
research, create, study, produce, solve, investigate? What product will be produced at the end of this
project for evaluation. Write a one-page description outlining your proposal.

Research
- The research of this capstone project will first be done on the idea of surrealism as this is the art
movement I am trying to understand/utilize on to my painting. The motive and the Idea behind the
movement will primarily be researched as there are so many variations of style within the movement-
surrealism.

- The second research will be done after making the preliminary sketch, reference photos will be
researched. Reference photos are photos that are used to make a model/guide while painting.

Create
- Once the Idea and motive behind surrealism are researched, preliminary sketches will be made.
Through the preliminary sketches, I will be able to show my ideas before moving on to the canvas,
sketches are the basis of every paintings or artworks before being made.

- Once all preliminary sketches are made and expectations of the final product are carefully studied,
the sketches will be transferred on to a canvas.

- Based on sketches made on the canvas, I will start painting on the canvas. Every significant step on
the painting will be photographed to be posted in the presentation.

Study
- Every image that is used in this painting will be studied on how to use as an effective tool I can use to
tell my story on my canvas.

- As stated above, the painting itself will be studied before being made, as I am going to make a
preliminary sketch using all the reference photos

- The concept of surrealism will be studied and how I can use it to make it mine

Produce
- At the end, my final painting and my preliminary sketches will be produced

Solve
- Throughout this capstone project I will be asked to solve on: when painting in surrealism style,
although in broader concept it fits the theme surrealism, how can my painting not resemble the artists
that have already been/experimenting in this field and show difference?

Investigate
- I will be investigating how I can portray my story effectively on to the canvas

As stated above, a painting will be produced to be evaluated on.

Resources/ Technology/Skills: Make an assessment of the resources, technology and skills you will
need to be able to complete this project. What is your plan to be able to access/learn all of the resources
necessary to achieve completion of this project? Detail your plans.

As I will be required to use increasingly complex oil painting skills as time progresses, I will keep trying multiple
and multiple times and make preliminary sketches as that is the only way you can improve on painting skill in
brief period.
Project limitations: What are some project limitations and potential obstacles that you foresee that might
affect progress with your Capstone Project?

None
