NAME: - Unit 2 Test: Inverses of Functions Instructions

This document provides instructions and problems for a unit test on inverses of functions. There are 4 problems to solve: 1) determining the inverse of a function, its domain and range, and the domain and range of the inverse; 2) finding a linear function given points on its inverse; 3) finding the inverse of a quadratic function, determining if it is a function, restricting the domain if needed, sketching the function and its inverse with different colors, and stating their domains and ranges; 4) solving word problems involving inverse functions. The document provides guidance on showing work and receiving partial credit for steps.

3. Given the function 𝑓(𝑥) = − 3(𝑥 + 1) − 2 :

a) Determine the equation of the inverse of the function 𝑓(𝑥) [K/A /3]

b) Is the inverse of 𝑓(𝑥) a function? Explain.

If not, restrict the domain of 𝑓(𝑥) such that its inverse is a function. Include ALL
possibilities.

c) Sketch the function 𝑓(𝑥) , and its inverse 𝑓 (𝑥) in the same graph.

REMEMBER: NO GRAPHING SOFTWARE. ALL GRAPHS MUST BE DONE BY HAND.

Drawing tools are acceptable but be precise.
