Balasabas Product Rating Scale
Balasabas Product Rating Scale
So let take a look for the example of product rating scale which is the classic
“handwritten scale” used in California Achievement Test (CAT), Form W (1957). The
sample handwritten of a student is then moved along the scale until the quality of
handwritten sample is most similar to prototype handwritten.
CAT is one of the most widely used of the student assessments for basic academic
skills. It is often administered to determine a child's readiness for promotion to a more
advanced grade level and may also be used by schools to satisfy state or local testing
requirements.
PERFORMANCE TEST
One of the most frequently used measurement instruments is the checklist.
A performance checklist consists of a list of behaviors that make up a certain
type of performance
It is used to determine whether or not an individual behaves in a certain (usually
desired) way when asked to complete a particular task.
A checklist is a tool for identifying the presence or absence of conceptual knowledge,
skills, or behaviors. Checklists are used for identifying whether key tasks in a procedure,
process, or activity have been completed. The tasks may be a sequence of steps or
include items to verify that the correct sequence was followed. You may need to
observe the tasks being followed because, in general, you cannot judge what tasks the
learner did from the end product. Remember that some attitudes may be indirectly
observed. We have here an example about the performance checklist in solving a
Mathematics problem.
Behavior:
1. Identifies the given information
2. Identifies what is being asked
3. Uses variables to replace the Unknown
4. Formulates the equation
5.Performs algebraic expression
6.Obtains an answer
7. Check if the answer makes sense
The purpose of performance test is to know the student strength and weaknesses. They
are used to determine whether students have learned what they were expected to learn
or to level or degree to which students have learned the material.
Checklists and rating scales can be used to assess the students' abilities, attitudes, or
performance in process areas such as communication skills, linguistic skills, extent of
participation or interest in the topic.
