Determine notable comparisons of the following of human condition then and now:
1. Mortality Rate
Then: In Philippines, mortality rate from and number of deaths of Philippines increased from
293.3 thousand cases in 1971 to 655.26 thousand cases in 2020 growing at an average annual
rate of 1.66%. Crude death rate of Philippines fell gradually from 7.94 deaths per thousand
population in 1971.
Now: 655.26 thousand cases of mortality rate in 2020 growing at an average annual rate of
1.66%.
-to 5.98 deaths per thousand population in 2020
This is the reason why mortality rate and number of deaths are less in the past because
even they don’t have a high-tech technology, they still find ways to survive. Unlike
nowadays, we live in advance technologies but, mortality rate is increasing due to pandemic
and because time becomes shorter as well as our lives.

2. Average Lifespan.
Then: The so called “sixth extinction” or the Halocene extinction (anthropocene extinction)
occurred from as early as between 100, 000 to 200, 000 years up to the present. Due to human
activity, the extinction of several species both flora and fauna is on-going and increasing.
Now: As time goes by, humanity became more complex and the primary goal was not only to
survive but to live a good life.
3. Literacy Rate
Then: Elderly literacy rate of Philippines increased from 50.7 % in 1980
Now: 91.4 % in 2015 growing at an average annual rate of 11.50%.

Do you agree with martin Heidegger in his idea that technology should only be seen as one of the
approaches in perceiving truth? What are other
possible approaches we should consider?
I disagree with Martin Heidegger's assertion that technology should only be seen as one of
several methods for experiencing the reality. Whether it is for moral truth, justice, honesty, moderation,
courage, or ethics, technology will never reveal or perceive any truth.
According to Western Philosophy, there are two viable paths to perceiving Truth: (1) Reason;
and (2) the Will to Power. Following in the footsteps of his Fuhrer Adolf Hitler, Heidegger chose option
#2. His Authoritarian writing style demonstrates this (i.e. he asserts but never pauses to prove or argue
his case).

Points to ponder
1. Since the invention of the printing press, people have always panicked about the
implications of the new technologies. Is there something uniquely worrisome about
the nature of technological change today?
It all depends on the technology we're discussing. Smartphones, computers, and the internet
are revolutionary technology, but they appear to me to be on par with previous major communications
and transportation revolutions that have occurred over the last thousand years.
2. What technological development do you think has the potential to do the greatest
harm to our species and to our way of life?
The gadget, notably the cellphone, is undoubtedly the technology that has developed and has
the greatest potential to cause the greatest harm to humanity and our lives. Gadgets have helped us to
simplify our work, communicate more effectively, and discover new and interesting knowledge.
However, aside from the positive impact they make, electronics have an unavoidable negative impact on
humans.

ASSESSMENT TASK
Suppose you are in a philosophical debate. You will be given the chance to support
which of the following notions below you stand? List down pertinent points and
construct an individual position paper regarding your stance.
Nowadays, we lived in a technological society where we did things that were integrated with
various types of technology. Technology has been a requirement for all of humanity; it's as if people can't
live without it, and every advanced technology has its own functions, allowing it to blend into our daily
lives and assist us in achieving our objectives. People have varied life goals, but everyone wants to be
successful, and with the help of technology, we've been able to reach those goals in a modern way. It's as
if we've created our own path, a road to success. Moreover, with the assistance of technology, education
has been more efficient through the use of various study options, which may encourage students to be
more engaged in learning things that will be more beneficial to their studies.
Technology bridges the quality gap in education, especially in this pandemic, by bringing books
and textbooks to life for students for effective distance learning. Before, books were absolutely necessary
for good study habits, but technology has made it possible for students to overcome the challenges of
studying by simply using the internet to find incredible results or answers to their questions, and it has
been a huge help for us as students to cope with the struggles of having difficult online activities in our
classes. Technology would assist not just students but also teachers.
According to the Scientific World (2019) The advent of modern technology brought about great
changes in our modern life. Before technology, man did not know many modern means in his life but
relied on simple primitive tools in everything.
Evidence of history tells us how Neanderthals used stones to burn fire to cook food and so on. Wood was
used to make spears, which were used to hunt animals and other primitive methods.
Then, over the years, these techniques developed gradually until we reached the peak of technological
advances in the present day.
How Important Technology is in Our Daily Lives?
There is no doubt that we are experiencing a tremendous development in technology. This
technology has had a negative or positive impact on our life. As a result, it has influenced the way we live
and we rely heavily on it. Humans continue to evolve continuously.
Technology will not stop at a single threshold, but we still hear daily discoveries and inventions by
scientists. Technology has spread all over the world and people use it all the time.
It is no longer limited to work and in developed societies, but any person, regardless of his or her cultural
or social level, or whatever his age, can use a cell phone, for example, to take pictures, send and receive
them. Technology helps us to keep in touch with people who are away from us. We use phones and
computers to talk to them and even see them.
Our daily work office is also technology-based. People no longer use pen and paper to complete their
work. We keep our health by going to the gyms.
There are machines in the gym that help us reduce our weight and keep fit. We get to keep a lot of
information in a small device and use it when we like. Cars have also become better with the use of

technology.
Technology cannot be appropriate in some tasks and has negative influences. Everyone determines and
decides how to use this technology in a negative or positive way.
The same technology can be used by two people in a different way.
Consider a world without technology. What kind of life do we have right now? Technology is an
integral component of our life and one of the most important aspects of humanity's survival in a fast-
paced environment. New technology development saves lives, improves employment, and makes the
world a better place. In reality, technology has had a significant impact on how we live in the world today
and how we communicate with everything in our environment. The impact of technology is more than we
expected. As a result, we're working on new inventions to help us live a better, more standardized
existence.
