    Reflection Paper on the short film “Alike”

    Alike is a short film that tackled about topics like creativity, education, and
    conformity in our society. The movie revolved around a father and son living in an
    all-white society which symbolizes the blandness of the people. The film portrayed
    how the father tend to lose his creativity and enthusiasm in the process of
    conforming in their society as he prioritizes things such as his job stability and
    career. With his son entering an educational institution, he was instructed to learn in
    a manner like everyone else. The boy who was once filled with “color”, which
    symbolizes his creativity and joy, slowly turned pale as he was forced to learn in a
    standardized form of learning. As soon as the father noticed that his son is
    experiencing a similar state of him when he is at work, he immediately took action to
    bring the colors back to the boy regardless of his previous ideations and beliefs.

    This film reflects on our tendencies to sometimes forget about the little things
    in life which are far more valuable than money or any other worldly things. It teaches
    us that sometimes we need to break our routine and not be afraid to get out of our
    comfort zones and be different. Sometimes we tend to leave behind or forget things
    that meant the world to us as a child, in our pursuit of stability as we mature. This
    film reminds us that there are things in life that are worth taking a break from our
    routines for and just appreciate the little things in life. This film serves as a reminder
    to the older generation today that they should always show support to whatever their
    child wants to be in life (as long as it doesn’t take advantage of other people and is
    according to God’s will) and never to become the reason for the living colors to drain
    out of their vibrant dreams and aspirations.
