Self-Reflection Journal

It is always important to self-reflect, because this is where educators show that they are

trying to grow not only for themselves, but also for their students. Growth both spiritually and

academically, can be done by anyone willing to put in the work. A great educator will not only

influence the student in their class, but every person they come into contact. They are a piece of

the puzzle that is part of that person’s identity. This is why self-reflection is so important.

Having faith is important in any religion and when it comes to our Christian faith being

able to help make decisions by using biblical perspectives would be where it is different since it

is a calling to be more like Christ. This is not really to say that other faiths do not have a moral

compass to follow. By looking at it from Christian mindset and not a secular one it is more self-

sacrificing than a lot of other religions. That is why I think that makes it a more important

influence in the fact that we want to do the best for others, because that is what Christ did for us

by dying on the cross and being selfless.

The considerations that one needs to think about when including technology in any aspect

of the learning environment is making sure that you are meeting the needs of all of your students

and that means being able to offer different types of techniques within the technology so that

every person is able to have a way of learning. I think that would be the most ethical way of

being able to broach technology in education, because people are different in their learning

styles. Some are auditory learners, while others are visual and then there could still be the

unknown of a special case. This can be a little difficult because you could run into a person that

has a disability or limitation that is out of the ordinary and many times an educator has to be able
to think outside of the box. Luckily that is where many schools have a department that can work

with 503 accommodations to help educators know how to assist students and have tools in place

to help with the learning process.

Technology is great and there are so many different ways that we can be able to use it and

be able to grow. The biggest part that could lead to concerns on when it comes to the evolving of

technology would be the loss of the personal aspect that a person has in a physical classroom

setting. This could pose an issue for a student that is not comfortable asking for help and many

times it takes the professor physically seeing the student to know if something is out of the

ordinary or if they feel that they are uncomfortable by judging body language. We do not get that

from the online side as an educator and having students that do not speak up when they are in

trouble until the last possible moment can really hinder them when it comes to being able to get

the proper help that they may have needed. It might be too late if the class is now at the end of

term and there is no way to be able to catch up with the work. Having run into this personally

even though there have been multiple communications that are going out saying how to be able

to communicate to the professor such as email you always run into at least one person who says

they did not know they can email you when they needed help and waited till the last minute.

Now seeing that person in a class and knowing that they look like they are struggling would

make a world of difference in being able to catch those nuances ahead of time.

Being able to see the differences from being a student and from being an educator has

helped with developing perspectives as I have navigated my own classes. I think we make a

world of difference and am thankful for the knowledge I have learned from this class to be able

to pass on to others.
