A. Research on the safety tips or the Do’s and Don’ts before going to swimming activity.
Do’s

 Wear a proper attire before swimming or doing any sport.

 Always warm up and stretch first to avoid having injuries and accident.
 Check the depth of the pool before diving.
 Always follow the instructions of the lifeguard because he/she knows the environment
well.
 Bring a safety equipment just in case accidents occur.

Don’ts

 Don’t run on the pool deck, just walk because it can be slippery. You might fall or trip
that will result in a cut or broken bone.
 Don’t eat a heavy meal before swimming. Having a large meal before entering the pool
will make you feel heavy in water.
 When diving, don’t dive headfirst, because it seems dangerous as you risk your neck.
 Don’t swim alone. You should always have someone with you that could be a lifeguard.
 Don’t forget to stay hydrated because it will reduce heat related emergencies such as
heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke.
B. Research on the Basic skills in swimming and define briefly.
1. Breathing – It is one of the most important abilities. When your head is submerged, you must
expel air through both your nose and mouth. Then, as you lift your head to the side, take a
deep breath before lowering your face.
2. Floating - First, learn to float in the water before kicking and stroking. Floating helps
you develop the habit of moving properly through water. Floating assists in keeping your
body on the water's surface. Floating is important because if you fall into the water by
accident, you will be able to float on the surface until you are rescued.
3. Body movement should be coordinated - Your body parts should be in perfect sync
with one another. To keep moving forward, you must be able to move the muscles in
your lower back, abdomen, and hips in unison. Your hands should be the first to move
and cut through the water, followed by your elbow, and finally your body.
4. Kicking – It is another important skill to learn if you want to master swimming. Kicking helps
your body to move in a forward direction.
5. Strokes - Strokes are the arm movements that help to pull the body through the water.
The front crawl, sidestroke, backstroke, and butterfly are some of the common
swimming strokes.
6. Gliding – It is a water basic skill to master. It helps you to get used to the sensation of
moving through the water headfirst.
7. Sculling – It is a basic swimming technique in which you use quick horizontal movements of
your hands in the water to keep your head above the surface of the water. You float vertically
with your arms extended sideways at shoulder level and your elbows slightly bent.
