IP File Transfer

 The features of the IP file transfer application are organized as dialog

tabs, providing an intuitive means for navigation. The tabs are:
 Download

 Upload/Reports

 Mass Storage

 History Undo

 When launched from the programming tool, the IP address or panel

name is pulled from the currently loaded job. There is no need for the
user to set an IP address, whether transferring directly to the panel or
over the building network.

46
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
IP File Transfer - Download
 By default, the job that is currently loaded in the programming tool is
selected for download to the panel

 All files are first downloaded to compact flash before being activated.
This provides a means for recovering previous configurations
(History/Undo). It also allows the fire panel to continue operating
during the file download operation. Panel down time is minimal.

 Files are transferred to the panel at between 60K and 100K bytes per
second.

 There is no appreciable loss in performance for remote download.

47
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
IP File Transfer - Upload

 The Upload tab‟s default option is to upload the job that is currently
running in the panel. The file that is uploaded is a compressed image
of the programmer job file. There is no need for an „unbuild‟. The file is
uploaded to its default location (C:\4100UJOBS\JobName).

 There are also options available for uploading all panel reports. The
reports are uploaded to the „Reports‟ subdirectory of the current job
directory.

 The report file is given a descriptive name, appended with the current
date (e.g. AlarmLog_2010_3_11.txt)

48
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
IP File Transfer - Remote Download

 Files may be downloaded to the panel over an external or building

network.

 In order to download to a panel remotely, the panel must be configured

with a Building Network Interface Card (BNIC).

 The BNIC is a slave card that communicates with the Master through its
high speed Ethernet interface.
 It belongs to a new category of slave cards called eSlaves.

 The BNIC isolates the fire panel from the external network. Only
authenticated users may access the panel over an encrypted link.

49
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
IP File Transfer – Remote Download
 On a properly configured network, the user can simply jack into the
customers building network and select remote download. IP File
Transfer will find the correct panel and make a connection.

 The progress of the connection is displayed in the tray of the IP File

Transfer application.
 Searching for …
 Creating secure connection to…
 Connecting to Master…
 Retrieving panel information…
 Connected

50
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
IP File Transfer – Remote Download

 A second option for connecting to the building network is to jack into the
front panel of any 4100ES node on the building network and switching
the front panel connection to the external network.

 Switching the front panel connection can be accomplished by

 „Front Panel Connection‟ menu item on the 2 x 40 or FUI display.

 Terminal command line option:

„sysdiag‟ frontpanelcon [panel] [external]. (ie. Sys front e <ent>)

 Unplugging the Ethernet cable from the panel will switch the connection
back to the panel after 30 seconds.

52
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Panel Discovery
 There are 2 ways that a panel may be discovered, mDNS or DNS.
 When configured with mDNS, a BNIC will automatically advertise itself
as a „fire panel‟ service. The drawback to this approach is that all
panels must be on the same subnet. It is possible for the discovery
traffic to span subnets, but not typical.

 For DNS, the server must be configured by the IT department. DNS

“Service Discovery(SD) Resource Records” must be entered for each
panel on the network

2 Panels Discovered

53
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Panel Discovery

 A Panel Name MUST be assigned to each panel on the network

 The default BNIC panel name is the “Building Network Panel Name” found
under the CPU Card, Ethernet Tab.

 Uncheck the “Use Default” checkbox to manually enter a different name.

Or , enter the DNS name on the worksheet provided by the customer IT
department.

54
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Panel Discovery
 A Building Network Interface Card MIS/IT Configuration Worksheet
MUST be submitted to the customer IT department for each panel on
the network.
 This document is located in the 579-967 BNIC Installation Instructions

55
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Serial File Transfer

 The Serial File Transfer is still available for transferring files directly to
the FUI or Audio Slave cards. Serial File Transfer is also required for
4120 network download.

 The „to Panel…‟ option should only be used if for some reason
Ethernet download is not available.

56
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Serial File Transfer

 Serial File Transfer should not be used for configuration downloads.

The serial transfer no longer supports the Upload/Unbuild feature.

 Using the Serial File Transfer option „to Panel‟ will result in a warning.
Users should be discouraged from using this option.

 When Serial File Transfer option is used, files ARE NOT stored in
Compact Flash

57
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
IP File Transfer - Mass Storage

 The Mass Storage tab allows the user to copy any job related files to the
panel‟s Compact Flash.

 The user may also copy files from the Compact Flash to a PC.

 1 GB of the compact flash memory is allocated for Mass Storage.

 There is an option to save/restore the entire compact flash image to a

PC for backup purposes.

 Options available to create new folders and delete files

active software (Panel Exec, Slave Exec, Cfig, etc.). If a new software
version is detected, a snapshot of the current configuration is taken.
 The Files Transfer application retrieves the panel snapshots and
displays a list of the configuration snapshots on the History/Undo tab.
The number of snapshots that can be maintained is limited by available
memory (1GB).
 By selecting a snapshot from the list, the user is shown an overview of
the differences from the active configuration.
 For a detailed description of job configuration changes, the user has
the option of uploading the job configurations and automatically
running the compare utility.
 An option exists to restore the panel to any of the listed configurations.
 An option exists to delete system files from Compact Flash

Install Mode
 When a Fire Alarm System is being installed or undergoing extensive
service, the number of troubles that arise from missing cards or
devices may interfere with the technician‟s ability to work on the panel.
To ease service and installation, the 4100ES will allow points to be
placed in “Install Mode”, thereby removing them from the Active
Trouble List.
 When one or more points are in the install mode state, the “INSTALL
MODE ACTIVE” trouble (P484) is activated.
 A new analog pseudo (A252) tracks the number of items on the install
mode list.
 If points that are not yet installed are known at job configuration time,
they can be put into a user list. All points in the list can be put into
install mode at once.

62
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Install Mode
 For phased jobs, a system “User List” can be used to group points
by area.
• The Active Trouble count on a 4100ES panel can be reduced significantly

Install Mode
 There are four options for moving groups of points into Install Mode
 Move NO ANSWER devices to install mode
 Move ALL OPEN CIRCUITS to install mode
 Remove ALL NORMAL points from install mode
 Remove ALL POINTS from install mode

 The options are available via the front panel (2 x 40 or FUI) and the
Service Port Command Line.
 User must log in at appropriate access level to use feature
 Install Mode is found under Menu\Diagnostic Functions? then scroll Previous
until "View\Change Install Mode List" is displayed.

 Individual troubles (including card status troubles) can be moved to

Install Mode from the Active Trouble List
 Press the TBL ACK Key/More Info then Previous until the
"<ENTER> = Add this Point to Install Mode" option is displayed
 When a Card Status point is put into Install Mode for a given card address,
the entire card is disabled.
 When Sub-Point 0 for a IDNet multipoint device address is put into Install
Mode, all subsequent sub-points are disabled
64
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Install Mode
 Install Mode Operation on a Simplex 4120Network:
 Install Mode CAN BE controlled remotely from one 4100ES node to another
4100ES node
 Install Mode CAN NOT BE controlled remotely from Legacy nodes.
(i.e.. GCC, IMS, TSW, 4020, 4100+, 4100U)
• On TSW Phase 2 nodes, Test Mode Groups can be created to limit the amount of active
troubles that are displayed

 When Sub-Point 0 for a IDNet Multi-Point device address is put into Install
Mode, and subsequent Sub-Point addresses are declared external at legacy
nodes (i.e.. GCC, IMS, TSW, 4100+, 4100U), Sub-Point address 1 and higher
will show Disabled in the Active Trouble List.
• Sub-Point 0 will display the highest priority active trouble.

 A check box option is available in IP File Transfer to preserve the Install

Mode list after a configuration download.

 A new report is available „Install Mode List Report‟ that lists all points
that are currently in install mode

65
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Install Mode List Preservation
 The install mode state/list is automatically preserved through a warm
start of a panel. A warm start is performed when:
 the reset switch on the CPU card is pressed
 the warm start menu item is selected on the front panel
 the “restart warm” command is performed at the computer port

 The install mode state/list is NOT preserved through a cold start of

the panel when the following operations are performed:
 the cold reset switch combination on the CPU card is pressed
 the cold start menu item is selected on the front panel
 the “restart cold” command is performed at the computer port
 The file transfer program supports preservation of the Install Mode
list via a checkbox with the default being selected. This operation is
supported when a modified CFIG (4100U job) is being downloaded
into the panel.

 The Install Mode list is NOT preserved if a download is performed

using the bootloader.

66
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Install Mode List Preservation
 If a card is inserted (i.e. at an RUI address before another card), a
warning is displayed by the Programmer

 When a card is inserted in the job (not appended), the Install Mode
list is NOT preserved.
 When the job is downloaded, the panel compares the new card list to the old
one. If a card insertion is detected, the Install Mode list is deleted and a trouble
pseudo generated at the panel "Install Mode list could not be preserved".

 A warm start clears the trouble

67
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Install Mode List Limitations
 In general, any point in the system that can be disabled shall support
being added to the Install Mode list. However, there are some
exceptions. The following cannot be placed on the Install Mode list
 Digital pseudo points
 Analog pseudo points
 Common Trouble point
 Relay Feedback points
 LED Troubles
 Display Card troubles
 Master Slot 6 troubles
• 0-6-5 Master Trouble – City Circuit
• 0-6-6 Master Display Status
• 0-6-7 Simplex Service Mode
 The TFXi card and it‟s points
 There is no limit to the number of points that can be on the install
mode list.

68
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Install Mode List Limitations

 BMUX Card Transponder troubles cannot be added to Install Mode

List using the “Add Open Circuits to Install Mode” operation
 Transponder troubles can be added to the Install Mode List individually

 TrueAlert Addressable notification appliance troubles MUST be

added to the Install Mode List individually
 If events such as No Answer, Duplicate, Wrong Device, etc. occur after the
device is added to install mode, the trouble will be reported to the active trouble
list. Under this scenario, the technician would need to remove the point from
Install Mode and then re-add it to Install Mode.
 This limitation is also reflected in a warm start operation. After a warm start, if a
TrueAlert Addressable device is in install mode and in trouble, the trouble will
be reported to the active trouble list.

 If the user attempts to add an unsupported card or point to install

mode, standard messages “Operation Invalid for Point” at the
service port and “ACTION NOT TAKEN” at the front panel will be
generated.

69
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Install Mode - Computer Port Commands
 A new computer port command, “IMODE”, shall be added to support
viewing, adding, and removing points from the Install Mode list.
 This maintains complete backward compatibility with existing third
party interfaces.
 The user must login at the appropriate Install Mode access level
(default 3) in order to manipulate the Install Mode list.
 Computer Port Commands for Install Mode
 IMODE – to add points to, and remove points from the Install Mode list

4100ES - Service Gateway
 The Service Gateway application requires the following:
1. A TR or Customer PC with internet access (i.e.. Air Card) to run the Service
Gateway application.
2. A Remote Device (PC with Internet access or Smart Phone with data plan)
 AOL® AIM® Instant Messaging is the preferred method of communication for the Gateway.
Easy access, less keypad activity and faster response make this a simple, easy to use
application to allow communication between the gateway pc and user.
 Email option is the next best connection method for the user. Requires additional keypad
activity to operate the Gateway and is slower than AIM.
Google TM Gmail TM or Company Email are the recommended applications to allow
communication between the gateway pc and user.
 Text Messaging option is also available but less desirable than AIM and Email The
number of text messages may be limited by the service plan in place for cell phones. Like
Email, More button presses required to operate the Gateway and slower response .
3. A TR or Customer dongle to be installed on the Service Gateway PC.
4. 2 AOL-AIM or 2 Email accounts (Service Gateway PC and Remote Device)
 Recommended User Names
• Gateway PC Account: GWLTxxxxxx (AOL® -AIM ® or Gmail TM)
• User / Remote Device Account: SGTRxxxxxx (AOL® -AIM or Gmail TM)
• OR use company email address and access gateway via webmail

 To enable remote communication with the panel, an AOL-AIM or Email or
account must be setup for exclusive use by the Service Gateway (panel
account).
 Link to AOL-AIM Account Set-Up
 Link to Google Gmail Account Set-Up

 The panel account is entered into options

settings.

 A gateway password should always be set.

The password keeps unwanted users from
accessing the panel.

 To initiate communications from the

remote client, the password must be sent
to the panel account using a “GATEPASS”
command.

77
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
4100ES - Service Gateway

 The remote user must setup their own AOL-AIM account for
communicating with the panel account.

 To start a session, the user sends a message to the panel account.

Typically this will be the gatepass command followed by a space, then
the configured gateway password.
 gatepass (sp) password <ENTER>
 The gatepass command is not case sensitive
 The gatepass password is the password entered in the Options Tab

 The Service Gateway will use the account that sent the initial message
as the account to send panel output to.

 There are several options in the Service Gateway to filter events (Fire,
Trouble, SMPL prints, etc.).

78
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
4100ES - Service Gateway

 There are also options for compressing data to adapt to the

particular display that is being used.
 It is recommended that data sent to a Cell Phone be compressed

Configuring the User AIM Account

 The User account is the account that will be used on the TR cell phone
or Remote PC. The account can be setup by following the instructions
at the link below. This web page is where you will register your screen
name and assign your user account password.

 The account name should follow the naming convention that has been
suggested by the training group.
 Suggested user account name – SGTRxxxxxx

 Both accounts (panel and user) can be configured at the same time
using the Panel PC.

 Link to AOL-AIM Account Set-Up

80
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Configuring the Panel AIM Account
 Configure the panel AIM account just as you would the user account.
 Suggested Panel (Gateway) account name – GWLTxxxxxx

 The screen name and password of the panel account must be

added to the service gateway configuration (Setting/Options).

 This is a one time

configuration. The account
can be used for all panels
that the TR may service.

 The same password can be

used for the Gateway
password, User and Panel
accounts

81
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Service Gateway - Panel Connection

 The Service Gateway connects to the panel through any one of its
command line interfaces
 Serial Service Port

 RS232 Card interface

 Ethernet Service Port (Local)

 Ethernet Computer Port (Building Network)

 When using the RS232 Card interface, the port must be configured
as a COMMAND type.

 When making a connection over the building network, an Ethernet

Computer Port must be configured.

82
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Ethernet Computer Port Configuration
 Ethernet Computer Ports are configured in the ES Programmer on
the Ethernet Port tab of the CPU Card Configuration.

 In addition to the normal computer port configuration (access levels,

port vectoring, etc.), the Ethernet Computer Port must be configured
with a key. The key is used by the Service Gateway program to
establish a connection with the selected port
 The key is entered in the Service Gateway software under
(Settings\Panel Connection Setup\Pre-Shared Key)

83
4100ES Technical Support Presentation
Ethernet Computer Port Configuration

 An Ethernet Computer Port uses up one of the 5 total computer

ports that are available on the ES. Unless all ports are consumed by
other necessary equipment (Network Card, SDACT, etc.), an Ethernet
Computer Port should always be configured when the BNIC is
included in a system.

 All nodes on a 4120 Network with a BNIC card should have an

Ethernet port configured with the same key.
 This allows the remote Service Gateway user to switch between nodes
using the „host‟ command.

 From a cell phone, the user can issue the command „host Panel2‟ to
switch the panel connection to the node named Panel2.

 This will only work if Panel2 has an Ethernet Computer port that shares
the same key.

Service Gateway - Additional Options

Panel filtering allows the user to filter events

beyond the Programmer event vectoring. If
the service port is configured to vector utility
events, the user can inhibit the events from
going to the cell phone without making a
Programmer configuration change.

Panel output compression is ideal when

the remote device is a cell phone. When
sending panel output to a PC, the user
may prefer to turn compression off.
