Activity 4
SECTION: BSRT-1A
I. INTRODUCTION:
You already know the concepts of speed and velocity, this time a new
concept will be added to your knowledge – acceleration.
What happens when a van you are riding on suddenly changes in velocity?
What do you feel when you are riding on a roller coaster that plunges
downward moving faster as it moves down?
Note: Take pictures and attached here. Follow the IATF protocols. Do
precautionary measures in performing the activity. If possible, submit
the activity is pdf format. No pictures no point.
II. OBJECTIVE:
To determine the acceleration of a person walking, jogging, and running on a
30m track.
III. MATERIALS:
Stopwatch
Meter stick
A piece of chalk
Data notebook
IV. PROCEDURES:
1. Look for a spacious place.
2. Look for at least 5 members. (family member, friends, relatives)
3. Measure a 30m straight line distance on the ground, place a marker after
each 10m.
4. Using a stopwatch, measure the time it takes the member to walk the first
10m, jog during the second 10m, and run the last 10m.
5. Make two trials and tabulate your data and results.
V. OBSERVATIONS:
2. Trial 1 20s 10s 10s 1.5m/s 3m/s 3m/s 7.92m/s 5.051 m/s2

Guide Questions:
1. What can you say the speed of the group in walking, jogging, and running?
- - I can say that the speed of the group in walking is different to the speed of
jogging and also in running.
2. Is acceleration evident?
- Yes because there is a change on its velocity.
GENERALIZATION
- If an object is changing its velocity i.e. changing its speed or changing its
direction, then it is said to be accelerating. Acceleration= Velocity/Time
(Acceleration).
VI. APPLICATION:
1. A car has uniformly accelerated motion and starting from rest, has a
velocity of 32.4 m/s after traveling 86 m. Find its acceleration.
Vf 2 – Vi 2 = 2a (s)
(32.4)2 - (0)2 = 2(a) (86)
a=
a= 6.10 m/s2
2. A pitcher takes 0.1 seconds to throw a baseball ball, which leaves his
hand at the velocity of 90 m/s. What is the acceleration of the baseball
ball while it is being thrown?
a= 81,000m/s2
BICYCLE
a= -2m/s2
CAR
a= -28.125m/s2
