Notes
Beforehand…
Before starting AutoCAD, create a folder called work on the D: drive. If the folder already exists, delete
all the files in it before starting the lab. Saving the files on the D: drive makes it easy to find your files
and in the event of a crash, your files will still be there. When you are finished, upload your files to
eClass, save a copy to your USB drive or personal computer, and then delete them from the lab
computer.

Afterwards…
When you have finished working:
• Save the MYSUBDIV.dwg file in a location where you can access it easily
You will need it for next week’s Tutorial 5.
• Exit AutoCAD
• Upload your files to eClass and copy to your USB or personal computer
• Delete the files from the work folder in the lab computer

Always delete your files from the computer when you have finished. There is an icon on the desktop in
the lab that will delete all the files from the D: drive. Never leave your work on the computer.
Remember, copying requires two people and the person who leaves work lying around where others can
access it is just as guilty as the person who copies it.

If you have a file on eClass that you wish to work on, use the web browser to transfer it back to the local
drive, D: and then open it from there using AutoCAD. In general, never work from a network drive or
cloud storage – if the connection is lost, so is your data. Save often.

You may take back files and re-submit then up until the deadline, so do not wait until the last minute to
submit.

Exams
At the end of each of the tutorials are two key areas:
• Key Terms
• Key Commands

Make sure that you understand both with respect to the AutoCAD software as they may show up on the
midterm and final exams.

Data Files
The tutorial files will be located on the server in the directory:
Network: (drive N) Courses/Datafiles

The data files can also be downloaded from the SDC Publications website. Find the Lockhart book in the
list of AutoCAD 2020 books. Select the Downloads tab in the middle of the page. You can also download
them from eClass.
