4 Wheel Steer Calibration

Overview :-

The 4 Wheel Steer system on a 2000 series tractor is controlled

by FCC (ECU1). To accurately control the rear wheels of the
vehicle a calibration of the 4WS system must be carried out as
described in the procedure below.

The 4WS system must be calibrated to record the limits of wheel

movement and the Ram lock position.

Before entering calibration.

1. Drive the vehicle in a straight line so the front wheels
are in the centre position.

2. Check the rear steering ram is locked.

If not then start the vehicle and manually drive the
steer ram by over-riding the valve solenoid and pushing
the valve manually using a small instrument as shown
below.

If at any point during calibration ‘FAILED’ is displayed on the

Dashboard, note which stage it was at, exit from calibration and
retrieve the error codes from the Dashboard error log (Using the
WinGST tool). Click here for the fault list.

Note: The signal counts given below are for reference only.
Some variation is expected between tractors due to sensor
installation, build tolerances etc.

If your sensor values are within the ECU’s allowable range then
‘OK’ will be displayed when you press the Direction Stick End
button to accept the values.
If your sensor values are not within the allowable range then
‘FAIL’ will be displayed instead. Check the wheels are in the
correct position when storing values. You can monitor the sensor
values using ServiceMaster.

4 Wheel Steer (4WS) Calibration

Be aware that this process is time critical.
Read the following steps before commencing and ensure the
ignition is ‘Off’.

steer mode button simultaneously (the two bottom buttons) as

shown below:

2. With the 2 buttons still held down switch the Ignition ‘On’.

3. When the first Dashboard buzzer finishes sounding release the

two steer buttons and press the ‘Unlock’ button.

‘4WS CAL’ is displayed on the Dashboard for a short period of

time.
All the lights on the 4WS Panel will flash except the ‘unlock’
light.

You are now in Calibration Mode. Follow the steps below:

‘Start’ should be displayed on the Dashboard

Start the engine and run at idle.

If the 4WS ram is not locked then exit calibration by turning the
ignition key off and lock the steer ram manually as above.

‘FWS’ should be now be automatically displayed on the

Dashboard. (‘Front Wheels Straight’)

This is the calibration of the ‘Front Wheels Straight’ position.

Turn the wheels to be approximately straight ahead.

(The front potentiometer value displayed on the EMS should be
approx. 400)

Press the Direction Stick End Button to store the value.

‘OK’ message should be displayed.

If ‘FAILED’ is displayed refer to error log.

Using the Dashboard ‘Down Arrow’ (highlighted in the image

below) - scroll down to ‘FWL’ (‘Front Wheels Left’)

Turn the front wheels to full Left hand lock.

(The number displayed on the EMS should be approx. 200)

Press the Direction Stick End Button to store the values.

‘OK’ message should be displayed.

If ‘FAILED’ is displayed refer to error log.

Scroll down to ‘FWR’ (‘Front Wheels Right’) using the Dashboard

Slowly turn the Front Wheels back to the ‘Straight Ahead’

position.

When the Straight Ahead position is reached the next step ‘LOCK
MIN’ is automatically displayed – do not press the Direction Stick
Button.

‘LOCK MIN’ automatically displayed.

Make sure there are no obstructions around the rear wheels.

Press and release the Direction Stick End Button to energise the
Left steer valve.
This makes sure we calibrate the lower limit of the Ram Lock
mechanism.

‘LMIN’ value is displayed.

(Values should be approx. 380)

Press the Direction Stick End Button to store the values.

‘OK’ message should be displayed.

If ‘FAILED’ is displayed refer to error log.

Scroll down to ‘LOCK MAX’ using the Dashboard Buttons.

Press and release the Direction Stick End Button to energise the
Right steer valve.
This makes sure we calibrate the upper limit of the Ram Lock
mechanism.

‘LMAX’ is displayed.
(Values should be approx. 380 - very similar to LMIN)

Press the Direction Stick End Button to store the values.

‘OK’ message should be displayed.

If ‘FAILED’ is displayed refer to error log.

When the wheels unlock the next step will be displayed

automatically. The dashboard error light will come on (Code
F016). This is normal and expected.

If the ‘Unlock’ fails then turn the Ignition off, then re-enter 4WS
calibration and skip straight back to this point using the down
arrow on the dashboard. Repeat ‘Lock Min’ and ‘Lock Max’
sections above and return to this step. This means the ECU
reloads the new saved values.

‘RMIN’ automatically displayed.

By turning the front wheels the rear wheels should start to move
at a ratio of 1 to 1.

Turn the front wheels fully right (rear wheels should move to the
left).

The value displayed on the Dashboard should be the minimum

Rear Potentiometer value (Should be approx.300)

Press the Direction Stick End Button to store the values.

‘OK’ message should be displayed.

If ‘FAILED’ is displayed refer to error log.

Scroll down to ‘RMAX’ using the Dashboard Buttons.

Turn the front wheels fully left and the rear wheels should move
