Is there still a place for zoos in the modern world?

Nowadays, almost everyone loves watching animals in zoos, we are all

fascinated by tigers, elephants, lions, birds or reptiles. They love interacting with
animals that might be dangerous or so rare that seeing them in their natural habitat
might be impossible. But a zoo takes away the freedom of the animals and it is
very unfair to take them out of their “home”. Therefore, zoos can have advantages
and disadvantages, too.
First of all, zoos are popular places for people to visit and learn about
different wild animals from all around the world. They can see how animals live
and behave and find out interesting facts about them. It can be an educational
activity you can enjoy with your family or friends and a great source of
entertainment for kids. Secondly, zoos help us to know more about endangered
species, like Giant Pandas, Tigers, Orangutans and Asian Elephants and the way to
conserve them. They also educate us about conservation and teach us to protect
animals and their habitats. In addition, zoos are safe for animals, they are in no
danger of being killed by other animals or hunters. Lastly, they have good life
conditions, food, water and medical treatment for living a long and healthy life.
No matter how comfortable a zoo is, there is nothing like “home”. Firstly,
the animals are happiest in their natural habitat, like jungle or ocean. Zoos are
prisons for animals, they lost their freedom and stay in small cages, and often
suffer by splitting up families. Next, many of the animals in zoos don’t live a
natural life, they don’t learn about survival or they lost their ability to hunt or fight
for food. Moreover, while some zoos take really good care of them, unfortunately,
some keep animals in very bad conditions just to make profit. Finally, there are
animals who are forced to live in different climates and weather. Last but not least
we can bring the zoo to our home and we can still see our favourite animals and
learn about them on the internet and TV.
In conclusion, I believe that, in the modern world, zoos are helpful and
beneficial for education and protecting endangered species, but they should
provide the best conditions and safety for the animals living there. Finally, even if
zoos were created to bring wildlife closer to us, I don’t consider putting animals in
cages to be the best solution for protecting them from extinction, they should feel
happy in their natural habitat.
Is there still a place for zoos in the modern world?

Zoos are popular places for people to visit and learn about different animals,
birds and reptiles from all around the world and were created to bring wildlife
closer to us. But zoos can have both, advantages and disadvantages:
One of the biggest advantages is that it can be an educational activity you
can enjoy with your family or friends. They give us an insight of all different
species and their behavior. Most zoos usually have information describing the
animal, their history and interesting facts about them. Also, learning about animals
helps create awareness about their endangerment in the wild.
Another advantage is conservation. Zoos are helping animal population by
breeding captive species so they never go extinct. They also ensure the animals are
safe and get all the nutrition necessary for them to live a long and healthy life and
they are in no danger of being killed by other animals or hunters. Some examples
of endangered animals are: Giant Pandas, Tigers, Orangutans and Asian Elephants.
On the other hand, zoos have disadvantages too. Firstly, the animals are held
in captivity and live in an unnatural habitat. While some zoos take really good care
of them, some keep animals in very bad conditions just to make profit.
Another major problem is that animals are deprived from developing their
survival skills. Many of the wild animals in zoos are unable to survive if they are
released because they may have lost their ability to hunt and fight for food.
In my opinion, I believe that, in the modern world, zoos are helpful and
beneficial for educational purposes and for protecting endangered species, but they
should provide the best conditions and safety for the animals living there.
Finally, I don’t consider putting animals in cages to be the best solution for
protecting them from extinction.
