[Course Introduction]
This course introduces some Applied Social Sciences namely, Counseling, Social Work, and
Communication, which draw their foundation from the theories and
principles of Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, and other Social Sciences.
The course highlights the seamless interconnectivity of the different applied
social science disciplines while focusing on the process and applications of
these applied disciplines in critical development areas.
The first topic is definition of social sciences and applied social sciences.
At the end of the topic the students should be able to:
1. Define the social sciences in their own words,
2. Define what is applied social sciences in their own idea based on the
topic,
3. Differentiate between social sciences from applied social sciences,
4. Write the importance of applied social sciences in your life, and
5. Enumerate the example of applied social sciences.

“Applied Social Science is the discipline dealing with the art or science of
applying scientific knowledge to practical problems”
Glossary
Academic Disciplines – this refers to the general subjects like social science.
Economics – a branch of social science that deals with production of the economy of the country or state.
Political Science – this refers to the branch of social science that deals with politics and governance.
