Types of interviews

1. Individual Interviews:
 Just because this is a one-to-one, don’t believe it is informal
 May be a sifting exercise or a ‘first interview’
 The focus is often on information taken from your CV/Application
form but be prepared for any type of question

2. Panel Interviews:
 Very common for graduating jobs
 Usually 2-4 members, 1 will act as the chair, normally all will ask
questions
 Not all of the panel will necessarily be experienced interviewers or
know a great deal about your post
 Panel interviews can often be fairer than 1-2-1 interviews – you’re not
just relying on the opinion of one interviewer
 An HR representative may also be present to ensure the process is fair

3. Telephone Interviews:
 Often used as a screening interview to again further information
before inviting you in for an interview
 Length could vary from 10 minutes to quickly go through about CV/
Application form or a full 40 minute interview
 Prepare in the same way as you would for a face to face interview –
ensure you have a copy of your CV/ Application form in front of you
 Don’t eat or smoke (they might not be able to see you but they will be
able to hear you!)
