ARNIS

Arnis is one of the Philippine martial arts also known as kali or eskrima. It has been practiced in the Philippines since before the Spanish arrived in 1521, though the Spanish later banned it due to its deadliness. Arnis survived by blending into plays and being practiced privately. A key element of Arnis is sinawali, which uses two sticks to practice combinations of attacks and blocks. There are also solo baston techniques that use a single stick, including styles with six, eight, or twelve strikes and blocks. These different styles each have their own strengths and weaknesses. Disarming techniques are also part of Arnis and can be used to protect oneself or gain an advantage, though they require skill

Arnis is one of the Philippine Martial Arts. Arnis has been called different names such as kali or eskrima.

Arnis has existed in the Philippines way before the Spaniards discovered us in 1521. The practice and
teaching of Arnis was banned by the Spaniards due to its deadliness. Despite the ban, Arnis has survived by
blending itself in plays or practiced behind doors. If Karate is to Kata then Arnis is to Sinawali. Sinawali
means the way of the stick. The Sinawali is a combination of attacks and blocks as well. However, most of
the techniques done here is with the use of two sticks. Nonetheless, arnis has its way of art that includes
one stick, which we call solo baston. The solo baston has three styles. The three different styles are as
follows six strike/block, eight strike/block and twelve strike/block. These three different styles have their
own strengths and weaknesses. First off, the six strike/block style. This style attacks and blocks the
following parts of the body crown, both temporal, both leg and the stomach. The pros of this style is that it
not difficult to remember and can be retrieved from the memory easily. It is also easy to execute.
Disarming aids the threatened individual to protect himself/herself from the violent attacks that could an
attacker pose to them. As handy as this is, it is also quite dangerous. Disarming requires fast agility
responses, keen eyes and strong arms or hands. Disarming not also disarm your opponent but can also
physical pain that depends on the disarming style that you employ. There are also some disarming styles
that you could use on for your own personal gain. A good example of this is from disarming an opponent
and proceed to redonda. Disarming however, is not only limited to sticks.
