My Teaching Philosophy
Being a teacher, it is important to have your own philosophy of education. It is your
beliefs, values and your understanding in line with your profession as an educator. For me,
philosophy greatly contributes to teachers in inculcating new learnings, skills and ideas on
his/her students. Students will always look up to their teacher so therefore they must have
good qualities towards on teaching-learning process. In order to inspire them, you must
have your own philosophy of education.
I am practicing my teaching profession for 5 years. I am a secondary teacher at San
Antonio National High School teaching in Filipino. I must say that I am happy for what I
achieved right now. As a secondary education teacher, my teaching philosophy is a
combination of all teaching philosophies that I learned when I was a student in college. I
strongly believe that fostering critical thinking skills is at the heart of what we do in
education. Education is about the students and I am there to guide them through their
journey. I am a kind of teacher wherein I set classroom rules democratically. I believe
teachers should serve as role models and be the center of a classroom. In order to maintain
that students stay on task and are all on the same page, the teacher needs to serve as a
guide and direct the students. They should be engaged in making rules so that they can be
aware in their actions if it is good or not. I would strictly emphasize that these rules,
expectations, and consequences are being imposed to create a pleasing and productive
learning environment. I would use logical consequences with those students who choose
not to follow the rules and expectations, and encouragement and rewards with those
students who demonstrate the appropriate behavior. In the teaching learning process,
teachers are only facilitators and the learners must see their own value, analyze information
and situations and effectively solve problems. I see myself not only the source of
information but I also encourage my students to ask questions, add additional information
about a certain topic. I let my students explore so that they choose what information is
important and should be retained. Assessment should be done through written works and
performance task in order to cater the multiple intelligence of the leaners. When students
are able to see how they are doing in a class, they are able to determine whether or not
they understand course material. Differentiated assessments t can also help motivate
students. If students know they are doing poorly, they may begin to work harder.
I want to become a better teacher because I love my students. We both learned in
many different ways. I want to influence children in a positive way and help them be all
they to reach their dream. That’s biggest achievement I can do for them and I am happy in
my profession regardless of my paycheck.
