IoT Assignment #2

This document contains an assignment submitted by Bilal M. Hoor for their Introduction to Industrial Internet of Things course. The assignment includes exercises from Chapter 2 on Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The first exercise provides a table comparing key features of Industry 4.0 and IIoT. Subsequent exercises ask the student to define the industrial internet, list catalysts behind its development, define smart products and cyber-physical systems, and compare differences between IoT and IIoT.

4. What is the industrial internet? What are the main catalysts behind
the industrial internet?

Answer:
Industrial Internet is the convergence of the global industrial systems
with the power of advanced computing, analytics, low-cost sensing,
and new levels of connectivity permitted by the Internet.

The catalysts behind the development of Industrial Internet are as

follows:

(a) The investment in the deployment of sensor nodes, required

instruments, business processes, and updated user application
interfaces will promote the development of new technologies.

(b) The security of sensitive information, data, and intellectual

property (IP) requires a robust security system.

(c) To instigate the growth of new talents such as advanced

engineering studies, data scientists, and software experts
promote industrial development.

6. What is a smart product?

Answer:
Industry 4.0 comprises various technologies such as CPS,
Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), IoT, and
cloud-based data integration to help human beings and things to
communicate among themselves. These advanced technologies,
along with smart sensor nodes, form the smart product.
8. What is a Cyber-Physical System (CPS)? What are the primary
constituents of mobile CPS?

Answer:
The overall incorporation of the different advanced technologies in
the field of computation, networking, and physical processes, with the
integration of Internet connectivity among the processes. These
systems operate and interact with the physical world in real-time. The
components of CPS are developed by human beings, which include
processing, communication, and information control.
