COURSE TITLE: Civic Welfare Service Training1/ Literacy Service Training 1 / Military Service 1
COURSE DESCRIPTION: The Literacy Training Program I (LTS1) and Civic Welfare Training
Program I (CWTS1) are two components of the university NSTP Program that aims to prepare
students for NSTP II or application phase by providing them the basic concepts and theories needed
for doing community work as well knowledge of issues and concerns that may affect the community
and in society in general. This involves introduction on concepts on self in relation to community and
basics of community development theories, practices and processes. As part of the process, students
are introduced to concepts on basic data gathering as a tool for community diagnosis and project
management in preparation for project implementation. For LTS, same concepts are taught, additional
inputs are given on the learning continuum in relation to literacy services. In Literacy Training Service
II (LTSII) students conduct tutorials on either numeracy or reading; assist in construction of visual
aids/instructional aids; setting of reading room and other related activities. Civic Welfare Training
Program II (CWTSII) involves the implementation of identified project based on community diagnosis
that may fall under components such as but not limited to environment; disaster preparedness; health,
literacy and numeracy and livelihood.
The third NSTP component -- the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) or Military Service (MS).
MS 1 covers discussions on military operation, combat training for individual soldier, public
information, civil affairs and mandatory readings. Learning integration, practical applications and
simulations are conducted under MS2. Topics include general military subjects, small unit tactics,
individual and unit trainings, marksmanship training, individual projective measures, drills and military
ceremonies. Graduates of MS2 would then be enlisted into the reserve force.
1. Develop and promote civic consciousness, enhance the physical, intellectual, moral,
spiritual and social well being
2. Inculcate the ideals of patriotism and nationalism and advance their involvement in
public and civic affair;
3. Instill moral values ,respect for the rights of civilians and adherence to the constitution;
4. Develop the ethics of service after undergoing training in any of its three program
components, and
5. Enhance the youth’s active contribution to the general welfare.

Grading Scheme: 30% Attendance, 40% Class Standing and 30% Project in lieu of Final Exam
