MATHEMATICS 5
FIRST QUARTER:
WEEK 2

I. Overview:
This week covers the lesson in determining when a number is divisible by another number.
There will be different activities to help finding factors of large numbers easily and even mentally by
using some of the divisibility rules for whole numbers.
This also emphasizes the efficiency of using divisibility rules in real-life scenarios in order to
understand commonality despite individual differences.

II. Learning Objectives:

The learners are expected to:
▪ state the divisibility rules;
▪ apply the divisibility of some numbers; and
▪ form numbers satisfying given conditions.

III. Materials Needed:

▪ Multimedia Devices: PowerPoint Presentation, YouTube
▪ Devices: Laptop, Speaker, headset, microphone, radio, etc

IV. References:

V. Lesson Proper:

A. ACTIVITY:
Session 1: Who among you #1 : Students’ Council Meeting
Answering the question “Who among you are members of the student council or an
officer of the class?” and then discussion of what they usually do to help their
classmates/co-students in the school.
Check Marks
Placing a check mark under the column by which the given numbers are divisible
either by 3,6 or 9.

Session 2: LAS #2-A: Book Activity page 35: A for 3,6 and 9

Session 3: Who among you #2 : Outreach Program

Answering the question “Who among you are actively participating in the outreach
programs?” and then discussion of experiences if they are happy with their participation.
Work in Pairs
Finding the answer to the problem about Outreach Programs and showing at least 2
possible solution methods.

Session 4: LAS #2-B: Book Activity page 35: A for 4,8,11,12 and D 1-5

B. ANALYSIS:
Session 1: Divisibility Rules by 3,6 and 9
▪ If you were one of those who have to set up the hall, what would you do? Would you got
ahead and try to make rows of 3,6 and 9? Is there an easier way?
▪ How did you find the activity?
▪ How are we going to check if that number is divisible by any number?
Key Question
▪ How do we find the factors of a number using divisibility rules?

Session 3: Divisibility Rule by 4,8 10 and 12

▪ How did you find the activity?
▪ What does the problem asked you to find?
▪ How will you find the answer to the problem?
▪ How did we know if the number if a number is divisible by another number?
Key Question:
▪ How are we going to know if 4,8, 11 and 12 are factors of a number?

C. ABSTRACTION
Session 1: Divisibility Rules by 3,6, and 9
▪ A number is divisible by
o 3 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 3.
o 6 if it is divisible by both 2 and 3. This means that the number should be even
and the sum of its digit must be divisible by 3.
o 9 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 9. (Dulce, 2020)
Session 3: Divisibility Rules by 4,8,11, and 12
▪ A number is divisible by
o 4 if its last two digits form a number that is divisible by 4 or if the last two digits
are both zeros.
o 8 if its last three digits form a number that is divisible by 8 or if the last three
digits are all zeros.
o To test the divisibility rule by 11, subtract the sum of the alternating digit. If the
result is 0 or 11, the number is divisible by 11.
o 12 if it is divisible by both 3 and 4. (Dulce, 2020)
D. APPLICATION
▪ Giving own examples of an integer which is divisible by some numbers.
▪ Selecting from the given which are divisible by 3,4,6,8,9,10,11 and 12.
▪ Applying to new and other situations: Analyzing and solving worded problems related
to factors, multiples and divisibility rules by 3,4,6,8,9,11 and 12.
E. CLOSURE
Where are we going
Learners predict the topic of tomorrow’s lesson. Be sure to refer to the predictions
the next day as either an opener or in closure.

VI. Assessment
Session 2:
LAS #2-A: Book Activity page 35: A for 3,6 and 9
 A. Put a check in the box if the number in the first column is divisible by
3,6, and 9 only.

Session 4:
LAS #2-B: Book Activity page 35: A for 4,8,11,12 and D 1-7
 A. Put a check in the box if the number in the first column is divisible by
4,8,11, and 12 only. (15 items)
 Solve each worded problems (5 items)

VII. Assignment/Announcement
Make sure to submit their works on time.
